OK, I finished assembling my TREX 500 late last night so now I'm ready to set up the radio and do the CCMP with Bob's videos and hopefully I will be ready to FLY IT :lolol
The problem now I have is...... I have extra pieces all over the place :(
So, for those of you who have just build a 500, did you have extra parts at the end????? I have two sets of extra linkage balls (two different types), a set or two of linkage rods with ball links, a few washers and some extra screws.... so that makes me worry... I hope I didn't forget to put anything in place and need to take everything apart :arggg:
So let me know if you also had extra parts at the end of your build, thanks guys!

I'm building my right now and so far... I only have screws and some washer left. Oh and of course the plastic tray that I took out after having a hard time putting my ar7000 in the bottom tray with all the wires. But other than that.. I used everything so far.

Normal to have some spare parts left over. Only you the builder will know if everything was assembled according to videos and or manual.

Normally, you have a spare parts bag with misc. parts for the build just in case you lose one, drop one, or mess one up. I think my extra servo spacers were also in that bag.

Muaaahahahaha, you are gonna diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeee.
One day, but probably not today, maybe, I don't know.
Didn't your daddy teach you anything? if you don't have parts left over you did something wrong?

I believe I have followed the video as close as possible and I hope my heli doesn't come apart in the middle of a flight. :arggg:
Kinta, how far have you gone? What radio are you gonna use?

I got everything completed except for the boom struts and the tail servos (back order :( ). I just found out that I do have a spare parts bag which I didn't even open out yet (I used zip tied from my parts box from my 450 hence I didn't open that bag).
My setup is DX7 with ar7000, 5245mg for swash and 401/9257 for tail.
The only thing that I really want to complain about the whole thing is the damn bullet connectors and the ESC. I mounted the ESC under the battery tray and had 1 hell of a time to push those connectors together.
I also ground everything from main shaft to tail rotor to ESC to frame. Everything have good solid connection (except for the bearing from the tail gear, even though it still have some connectivity, it just won't beep when I test it). And I loop my belt too...
And I just found out. I need a different pitch gauge. Which one do you guys use?

Your not alone. The best part of the build!

I'm new so I don't know how many types of pitch gauge are out there. I'm using the one that came with a tool kit I ordered from China.... man what a piece of junk those tools are. They even bend and once the screw gets tight, can't tight any more with those tools. I bought an Align set after that and things are well but I did not buy an Align gauge. I forgot to mention, my metal head stopper came off yesterday. It's like the screw is too small. I tried others remaining ones and they are too big. It appeared to be fine and tight when I installed it after carrying it a few times just within my apartment, it came off :thinking
So you are grounding the boom... I'm kind of confuse about it... so many messages regarding that issue. There are a few options, buy the metal tail boom, buy graphite spray, boil the plastic componets with some type of statit/softener and ground the parts. What I'm not clear about is if I need to just pick one of these options and I HAVE to do more than one.

Maybe you forgot to lock tie the screw for the head stopper? Right now I have that thing off until I finished with the blades pitch setup (I really like how you can check zero pitch by align the blade grips). BTW, you should hold the heli by the blade grip and not just the head stopper, the blade grip can support the full weight of the heli, but I doubt the head stopper can with just that tiny screw.
Just find a grounding method that work best for you.
So how's your maiden flight?

I did not have one single part left outside the "spare bag" when I had finished my build - sorry.

Those stock bullet connectors really sucks!
I had to use tools to put them together and take them apart. and after I had done that once, I had destroyed the heat shrink. I replaced the male connectors and now they are quite easy to connect and disconnect.
I put some fuel tube over a pointy set of pliers and I can hold the connector without damaging the heat shrink.

I just hope I don't have to unplug that connectors out. I used clothes (thick one), wrapped around those connectors, and used 2 pliers to push them together. But consider the tiny space...:arggg:

I had the same extra parts, longer standing ball links also. maybe those are used on different servo. I just got mine a few weeks ago.

Yep - spare parts such as screws etc... all good.

Kinta,
I will finish up setting up the radio probably tomorrow and I will take it to my LHS for a last check on Saturday. I don't have any real flying experience under my belt so I definately don't want to be the one to try to lift with if anything happens. I bought everything from them with the only exception of the charger (which I'm still waiting in the mail for :arggg: ) and the batteries.... so I "hope" they help me with that.

I must have a TREX 500 v2 cuz mind were really easy to plug in and unplug. The solding was done. The only "soldering" I had to do was for the ESC and the battery.... I went with the Anderson plugs and those are really easy to plug in an unplug. :Bliss

VICRC,
THANKS THANKS THANKS, people here were freaking me out. Hey... I assume your heli has already been in the air, right? I got mine about 2 weeks ago here in Virginia.
