ok guys... I'm fairly new to heli's.. I currently have a Helipro Blackhawk450SE.. I love this little heli.. But I really want a bigger one to go with it (it's lonely and needs a bigger heli to keep it safe).. I have decided that I want a H550.. I think it's a great choice for me and my wallet.. now.. here's the question.. The radio I currently have is a POS.. it came with my heli and it does a good enough job that I can fly with it... barely. I really want to move up in quality and move to 2.4ghz.. in a couple months I'll have the money to spend on a heli and radio and have come across the following deals..
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_30_36&products_id=2171
that one has a DX7 but uses the align HH gyro... or should I look at this one..
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_30_36&products_id=1827
which has the Futaba Fasst system and a gy401 with a better tail servo... I don't think I'll ever really get into hard 3D flying.. maybe just a few loop and rolls at times.. what would be the better of the 2?? Dx7 or Futaba... (hmm wonder if they could do a custom kit and let me pay the diff for a 401)

Just email flying-hobby and tell them what you want and they will put a kit together for you and give you the price. i would go with the DX7/401. The DX7 will be all the radio you will need for a long time and will be enough for a nitro heli if you ever decide to take that step. i purchased from flying-hobby and I was more than pleased with their support. They are about the cheapest for the hurricane. Shipping will be in the neighborhood of 50$ so remember to facotr that in. Even with the high shipping cost I saved over 100$ from buying in the US. Also you can haggle with them. I was able to get an extra set of CF blades thrown in for no additional cost.

I would go for a CF kit, a Z20/30 motor and a gaui/align 75A esc. The 401 is great, I use the Logictech 2100T with great success and a 9254 - tail is solid. I think the Dx 7 is a great investment and there is a ton of support around for them with almost any electric heli (I know nothing about nitro). Most people are happy with the servos that come with the Dx7 for mild sport flying so that solves that problem.

hehe.. once that tax rebate from Pres Bush gets to me (somewhere in may-august) I'll email them and see what they can do for me.. gonna have them add in an extra 6100 receiver so I can convert my Black Hawk to 2.4 at the same time :D I'm really looking forward to getting a DX7 and a H550..

Just bear in mind too that with that the included lipos aren't gonna like that Gaui 1100KV motor much. If you wanna stick to those style packs you're probably better off switching to a gentler motor (Z20 is a good choice) for a while, or look at some beefier packs, or both.
Flying-Hobby also has the Z20 -

yeah.. I've already been looking at different motors and packs.. the Z20 looks good.. and hobbycity.com has killer prices on batteries.. using a couple of the HTX220's now.. no problems out of those.. they have 3200's for $50 each and the 4100's for $55... both are 3s.. they do have a 6s 4100 for $120 as well...
for anyone that ordered from flying hobby... how long does it take for the heli to ship from Hong Kong to the states? Hobby City took about 1 week.. but I paid a little extra for the EMS priority shipping

I would not go for the 1100 gaui (I have one lying here doing nothing!), it is to hard on any packs. If you want that performance go for the Z30, but I think the Z20 would suit most and you can fly a lot longer.
My Z20 took about a week from them to South Africa, but our customs is really slow, it took more time travelling around our country than to get here from HK.

Have you looked at the prices at US resellers ?
I bought my kit from FH, but have already changed a lot I don't think was OK.
Got mine with 401 , CF and Gaui 1100 motor, replaced with Z-Power 20/980 from Helidirect.
The 1100 motors run hot, but if you are going to fly hard 3D, and have large Lipos, it's probably OK. For my skill of flying, it used to much power.
Servo in mine kit was Maxwell something, replaced with Spektrum DS 821 from my DX7 - kit.
A little bit slower, but much more precise. Don't know how the servos in that kit will perform.
Batteries was 2 * Aplus 2200 3S 25C , they are to weak for the 1100 motor, but I think I will give them a try in my new T Rex 500, or in my old 450 SE.
Replaced with 7S A123 for now.
Receiver battery was Aplus 1000 mah. Here in the danish "winter" with 2-7 degrees Celsius, the lights on the BEC turn to red after 3 flights, so I have replaced this one with a 2200 2S Lipo.
The Canopy cracked early around the mounting-holes, I replaced mine with a Fiberglass from RH.
Blade grips changed to CNC.

Have you looked at the prices at US resellers ?
yeah..I've looked online at some of the US based shops and so far no one is coming close to the price. Now, before I make a purchase I will email the shops and see if they can make me a package deal and get the price where I need it to be.. my main points that I'll be looking for is.. CF frame, DX7, GY401, motor and batteries.. I plan on using the servos from the DX7.. as far as the motor goes, the 1100 will probably be more than I need and going with the Z20/980 or something along those lines is plenty for me.. I'm no where near ready for 3D... heck, I'm just now starting to think about moving to FF.. maybe... I can do FF and FFF all day long on the sim..I just need to suck it up and give it a shot on my black hawk 450.. the worst that will happen is I'll plow it into the ground.. the best is that I'll fly it..
now if any of the US dealers can get me a good price on a H550 with DX7 and the stuff I listed.. PLEASE send me a PM... I'd be more than happy to spend my money with you instead of sending it overseas..
