View Full Version : Just Broke My 500SE in Half - When are the new frames coming?

I pieced my HDX500SE back together from used parts I got thru the forums and ebay. I completely lost my mind and slid it sideways into the ground and broke it into a LOT of pieces.

Can someone tell me when the new V2 frames will be available. There is no way I will drop a dime on V1 replacement parts. The TRex 500 with the larger gear is a blast and I am hoping to get this HDX to the same level, if possible. I have hated it's flying characteristics since day 1 and now I am faced with actually having to have a frame...and every other part. It might actually be cheaper to buy a new kit...not sure yet.

Also, Greg and HeliDirect Staff, hows the quality control comming on the parts. You know the trouble I have had in the past. If I order 200 bucks in parts, whats the likihood they will work?

What's the ETA on the new frames?

Roto, bummer...that just looks like it hurts! Well...on the Quality Control side of the house...the good news is that I am setting up a technical team to review and test new parts and upgrades prior to general release to the customer and I am sure that QC will get better as time goes...but just as Rome was not built in a day...as much as I would like to say that everything will be 100% from this point on...I am positive that we still will have some issues...but...we are working on it...and the first and most important step...is now having a techincal team...I know this is tough...but I am going to ask for a little patience...if you do have issues...please feel free to contact me or anyone of my staff at 877-439-4354 or e-mail me at my address in my sig...I will do everything in my power to get you good to go and back flying...

I also wish I could tell you when we will have the V2 Frames in stock...but right now I am not possitive...I hope soon...I will talk with my purchasing department and see if I can narrow it down on Monday when they are back in the office...

Now...I just got a 500 SE V2 kit in and will be hopefully getting it together this weekend...I will let you know if I have any issues with parts, etc...my kit has not been hand picked...it was pulled off the shelf and sent to me...I am also going to be setting it up using the new Spektrum DX6i so I am very much looking forward to flying this combo.

Please bear with us during this time of change...I have been in this hobby a long time and feel strongly about customer service and getting a good product for the money...and I feel we will get the HDX line in check with quality control...

Again...sorry about the crash dude! that just looks nasty! :bawl

My HDX broke in the same place. Fragile frames. I just replaced them with the black HDX SE frames. $34 bucks for frames why not. Besides you have your light weight hod rod Trex 500 in the background.:Bang

Mine broke in the same spot as well, maybe not as bad as what Rototerrier did to his but bad enough to ground my HDX500, I too am not shelling out any more cash on this frame set.
We need the RV version!

I dont think that frame is ready for a bigger main gear.

The Rotorworkz version has adjutable battery tray and is designed around a bigger main gear.

We (me at least) are waiting for the 130 tooth main gear to be released.
And Charlie aka Rotorworkz has done a bit of geometry changes, hence the RV

I have to reduce my collective to 9.5' to stop stripping the 96 tooth original gear (I have a Lepton Main gear in at the moment but I have already stripped one of those too).

Edit here are Charlies "improvements" over the V2 Frame

Aussiemick I was looking at the new frame you posted and I was comparing at my new Trex 500 thinking HDX 500SE designers wanted to mount the motor up high and battery down low for a minute CG advantage and that was a huge compromise in the frames structural integrity. They had to cut and trim to make things fit. Now they are going back to the conventional motor low/battery high design and also allows for the bigger main gear. I think HDX could have saved us all allot of grief/money if they were to have "kept it simple stupid!" But it looks like it's on the right track finally. Probably still needs to go a diet though. I hope it works out for HDX.

You have to remember that the original frames were a reworking of the LEPTON frames. The motor got moved to forward and above the main gear and the battery was kept in the same position. As were the whole cyclic control arms and levers and the silly little main gear.

I agree the new RV version will be a s*&t load better. I feel the new frames will give a lighter heli which is already ligther than the TRex500. My HDX500 weighs 1730 with 2x4S2100Prolites, I havent heard of any TRex500's that weigh less.

Hi, speaking of weight, my 3DX500, after some frame reworking and some other small mods, weighs 1618 grams at the moment ( AUW ).
