Hey Guys,

I am don't have a heli yet, just Phoenix and my 9303. I have been flying every evening for a couple of weeks now and think I am getting some basics down. I have a couple of questions regarding proper startup of the heli and the way Phoenix reacts.

First off, I am confused as to what we call the FMode - Normal switch position on my 9303, when throttle hold is off and if the left stick is all the way down, no motor spin. Is this what you guys refer to as idle up? If not is what do I refer to it as?

My other two switch positions on the 9303 is ST1 and ST2, I pretty much only use ST1 with my throttle and pitch curves taken from examples found here.

So with a real heli, I assume you start with Throttle hold on, with the FMode switch in normal? Take throttle hold off, and slowly spool it up? Once spooled up switch to ST1 and let her fly? Does this sound correct, this is what I have been doing.

Last question... I notice in Phoenix my normal "spool up" mode as I move the stick, goes from Zero to 2000 or so RPM with nothing in between. (flying TRex 600 E 3D).
I have my throttle curve in normal 0,40,65,80,inh,inh,100. I thought I would see a slower RPM with the stick in say position 40 and slowly increase as I go towards 100. This does not seem to be the case in Phoenix. As soon as the stick hit 40% it seems the motor in the Sim goes 100% or at least by the sound and watching the RPMs. Is this just a sim thing or do I have something setup wrong?

Thanks in advance, I promise not to ask so many dumb question when I finally start building a Heli. ;)

First off, no questions are dumb. Now Fmode or Flight modes are for different throttle curves. Normal will have a linear or straight line curve that goes 0-100 with some variations to get a constant headspeed when not using a governor. An example would be 0/25/40/65/100. some go lower on the last point, i usually leave it there for a "just in case" kinda thing. Now St1 and St2 are your stunt modes. These will typically change the throttle curves to more of a V curve like 100/70/60/70/100. I use a the Aerospire multigov which enables me to use it as a governor and a limiter. I put St1 in a simple straight v curve 100/75or inh/50/or inh/100. St2 I use as a limiter which enables me to use the curves to work the throttle until an overspeed condition occurs, then the limiter will back the throttle off.
Second question.Throttle hold takes the throttle to the idle position. It can be used for a couple different things. When starting / carrying to flight line, etc the throttle hold is a good idea so the throttle is not accidently bumped after started and guarantees its at idle so you dont "hotstart". Throttle hold can also be used to practice autorotation by taking the throttle to idle but still leaving you your collective to safely auto the bird in simulating a "dead stick" landing.
Last part about Phoenix is unless you go into the edit screen and disable Gov mode, the governor will take over at about 1/4 throttle and hold your heedspeed at the speed you set in the edit screen. if you disable this it will then use your throttle curves.
Hope this answers your questions, next time dont be afraid to ask when we're on Teamspeak, that way I dont have to type so much!!:rolling

Bill,

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I have a few more questions... but I will save them for TeamSpeak, ya know... to save your fingers for flight!!!
