My 401 has been on 2 heli's and had sveral crashes.

On about the 50th flight in my 500 it started drifting at liftoff. So I trimmed to stop it. When I went into idle-up it began a fast drift in the other direction so I trimmed to stop it. It even requires trimming in the middle of flight because it will start drifting again.

I completely reset the gyro and set it up from step 1 and it still does this. When i stop the drift with trim it flys pretty well locked in (slight 5 deg loss of heading).

Is the gyro fried? One of the crashes recently on the 500 caused a high amp draw that fried my ESC and 1 servo. Is there a chance this damaged the gyro too?

Thanks for any help

It is possible after all that abuse it is just worn out. The 401 on my 450 has been through more than a few crashes and has no prob. Ill assume you are using a high speed futaba digital servo. I had the same prob with my jr 770. Get that ball link as close to the output shaft as you can while still getting a good amount of throw. this will allow you to up your gain a bit and should stop the drift

thanks for the response. I will give it a shot . If it is toasted would you recommend the jr 770 then?

I have a quick one for you to check also .
I had a tail drift on liftoff yesterday that came from out of the blue . I landed and did a visual check over with nothing out of the ordinary found . This is with a 401 and 9254 combo .
Anyway went to try again after trimming only to find the tail let go and continued to piro ,a dodgy auto followed by another inspection .

This is where I found that the hole tail servo and brackets mounting it to the boom had moved about 6 mm along the boom towards the tail box away from the main frame . I suspect the reason was due to some silicon spray geting onto the outside of the boom and under the tail servo brackets . They were done up prretty tight too , seemed to be just a case of a warmer day , heli sat in sun for a while , things flexing as they heated and the lube working it's way under the brackets .

Not saying this is you problem but worth checking none the less .

I removed the brackets from the servo mount and boom , cut some strips of 400 wet and dry paper and glued to the inside of the bracket so it had good bite onto the boom tube .
Refitted the brackets and have yet to try it out but I think it's licked .

Anyway just another problem that is new to me anyway and will give weird tail problems for sure .

good luck

Jason.
