View Full Version : Frequency Change

I have a JR X-378 and need to change frequencies on the transmitter and receiver. The transmitter doesn't have a module but instead just has a crystal that plugs in the back.

Some have told me that I can't change the crystals myself and instead need to send the radio in to have them changed. The primary reasons cited thus far are:
1. The crystals are glued in the reciever and transmitter and are hard to remove.
2. The transmitter and/or receiver have to be tuned once you change frequencies.

The transmitter crystal came out when I pulled on it gently so that doesn't seem to be a problem. I haven't tried to remove the receiver crystals yet but I assume that they'll come out just as easily.

I don't know about the tuning thing and wanted to get people's opinion on this one. I'd rather not be without my radio for weeks while I send it in as it's the only one I've got but I also don't want to crash my heli because I short circuited some part of the process.

I think I found the crystal set that I need at Horizon Hobby and was going to order them but I thought I should check with everyone on the board first. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRPXF50

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

FCC Regulations state that you can not change the crystal in the transmitter unless your a licensed technican.

Is the 378 not a module style radio? If it is then you can just change the module to the new channel that you desire.

The crystal can be change to another channel ( frequency) in the receiver. Just do a range check after the change to make sure it is still operating properly.
