How long should a battery last. Is it based on the number of flights, charges...

It depends on the battery and how it is treated and how old it is and how many times it is used.
Cheap packs tend to not last as long.
If you over discharge or over charge, life goes down. If you draw too high of amps, the life goes down. It yo uleave it fully charged for a few weeks or longer, life goes down.
Lipos decline with age.
The more times you use and charge the pack, the more of the life you use up.
