I'm new to this radio, so when I ordered my radio, I did not really pay attention to the selection because I thought it has 20 memory for both heli and airplane. However, when I received the package and turned it on, the airplane appear on the screen, and the receipt show Air model. Would it have any different between Air version and Heli version beside the display on the front? Any input is welcome. Thanks in advanced.

No difference in programming. Only differences are:

1. Airplane is the default for when setting up a new model. So, when setting up a heli, you have to switch it.

2. The gear switch is on the top left for the heli version and on the top right for the airplane version.

There maybe another switch that is swapped around but, I can't remember.

I accidentally did the same thing. I ordered months in advance from Horizon when the DX7 was first announced and realized my mistake only when I received it. The most significant difference is that the 3-position flight mode switch is on the front instead of on the top left corner. The other difference is control labeling on all of the switches. I carefully disassembled mine and swapped the gear and flight mode switches. I had to lengthen one wire to make it work. No problems since. In fact, I like the fact that my 3-position flight mode switch has a long stem; easy to find while flying.

As stated above, the programming is exactly the same. You can easily assign throttle hold to the usual position on the top right switch in the radio setup menus.

Thanks for your inputs. I sent it back to exchange for the heli one.

Smart move. Besides the other differences noted, I would assume that the air version has a ratcheted throttle and the heli version a smooth throttle.

The Air comes with a smooth ratchet that you can use to replace the ratcheted one.
