Futaba 12FG region changed successfully !

Hi.


I have good news for 12FG users. Please read this first (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=43590)!
I got my 35MHz 12FG from Hong Kong and since the frequency range was limited
I reprogrammed the TX module according to MZFANs instructions.
I also upgraded the radio software / firmware to version 1,3.
The main point is to use 82 as an area code for Europe. If you use 02, then the transmitters
area code, which still is HK will prevent the use of the TX module.


Now I have Europe on the LCD screen as an area and frequency range of
34,950 MHz – 35,910 channels 55 – 91.
I have ground tested all of the frequencies with PPM, PCM and G3 receivers
with absolutely no problems.

As we all know, do it on your own risk : )

I don't understand also. But I am guessing he changed the region code in his module. I have not seen where anyone has accessed the service menu on a 12FG.

Sorry I didn't make me clear enough and sorry about my "not so good" English.
Let me try again.

The reason why I wrote to this forum was that I got my 12FG from Hong Kong
and I managed to change the region from Hong Kong to Europe.
Therefore I have now all the European 35Mhz frequecys in use. Thanks to MZFAN.
In Hong Kong they have only channels 75 - 82 ( 35.150 MHz - 35.220 MHz )
Now I have channels 55 - 80, 281 - 293, 182 - 191 ( 34.950 MHz - 35.910 MHz )
There is absolutely no need to get the access to the service menu of the 12FG radio to get the job done.
I was just simply happy and I wanted to share my joy.

OK. what did I do.
First I updated my radio software / firmware to version 1.3. I think it doesn't
have any effect for the end result, but I did it anyway.
Then I followed MZFANs instructions and I reprogrammed the TX module.
I used the following settings to program the module.

I did some testing and I found out that when using region code 02 ( Europe )
in the module, there was mismatch with the radio because we don't have access to the
radios software to change the region code of the 12FG radio.
But when using region code 82 in the module the radio accepted the module
and the radio region code changed to EUROPE. So there is no need to
reprogram the radio software.

The point is that with the 12FG radio we don't have access to the radios
software and therefore we are not able to change the region code of the radio
but by reprogramming the module the right way the radio will accept the module
and the radio region will change and therefore there is no need to reprogram the radio
software which we can not even do.

This also means that if someone will figure out the code of the 2.4GHz TM-14 module
we will be able to buy it from where ever it is cheaper than in Europe
and then we just reprogram it and use it in our 12FG radio.

Yes I have read that thread. Like I said in the earlier post. You changed the region in the module and not in the transmitter. From what I understand for the 2.4 module to work. The region coding will have to be the same in the 2,4 module and the transmitter. At least from the reports I have seen so for that is the case. 2.4 modules for the 12 and 14 bought from the USA would not work in transmitters with a region code of Europe. They would only work after the region code was changed in the tranny to North America.

You are right David.
The region code has to be the same in the module and tranny. Also in 12FG.
Specially if you are using non modified components.

I have now combination where the Hong Kong tranny was NOT reprogrammed in any way
but it is in Europe region mode now and all of the European frequencies are available.
Also in the LCD screen it says now "EUROPE".
This is because someone figured out that instead of using the original region code
of 02 in the module you should be using modified region code of 82.
My tranny changed the region to Europe all by itself after putting the
reprogrammed module in.

This is the reason why I think ( or hope ) that by figuring out the suitable code for
the 2.4 module it might be possible to use it in the tranny with any region code.

It is possible with "normal" module, hopefully in some day with 2.4 module also.

What happens if you remove your TX module and then turn ON your 12FG transmitter?
Does the 12FG still show Europe-mode or is it switching back to Hong Kong-mode again?

Now I just have to build myself a serial programmer device, (hope it is not that difficult).
I also have a 12FG Hong Kong region 35MHz transmitter.

My 12FG also automatically changed to Europe !!!!!!!
I now have all the 35MHz-frequencies 55-91, and a Europe-region 12FG !

MZFAN and FinnRC have made my day...and week...and year...

Even if it looks like your radio area has changed, it has not. The radio keeps in memory the last area and frequency used when you make a new model or when there is no module in it.
But in fact the radio keeps its on original setting, in your case Hong Kong area. That means when you want to use a standard non modified module it will only accept Hong-Kong ones. You won't be able to use a 35 MHz european module for exemple, without modifying it.
Your radio will only accept Honkong modules or modified modules. With 2.4GHz modules it could be some trouble as I don't know of anybody who successfully modified one.

It is probably a matter of cconnector but I don't have one to try.

However, it is a great step forward having ALL the european frequencies to choose from!
I wonder if there will be any Hong Kong-region TM-14 2.4 GHz modules available in the future? Probably not.
