Before a take the plunch and buy a raptor 50 v2 wouls I also need to incorporate a governor into the setup.
I've budgeted out on what I can initially afford with my setup as I'm still only doing basic forward flight and figure eights so a long way before I need to worry about highend servos and things.
4 x Futaba 3152 (Pitch, Cyclic, Elevator, Throttle)
Hyper os 50 motor
Gy401 and 9254 on the tail
Would this be enough until I get to advanced 3d. I might get to loops and rolls in the near future but don't see myself going much further for a long while yet.
Thanks,
Mike.

No, a governor is not needed on any machine. With fine tuning of the throttle / pitch curves everything a governor does can be done via the transmitter. A governor just makes life easier.

Thanks for the reply, I just wanted to try to factor all the expenses in without any unforseen extras cropping up later when I start to assemble the little beast.

It would not hurt to purchase the magnets and install them during building the heli. This way when you eventualy get a governor you don't have to tear apart the heli to put them in. As far as I know, any magnet set will work with any governor. Here is a set for just $6 http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=103127.
How you install them. If your fan is predrilled for them great continue reading, if not don't bother till you get the governor because you will not know where to drill the hole.
Because you don't have the governor yet and cant test to make sure you have the right side of the magnet facing up, here is a simple way to ensure you have it. You will be installing 2 magnets, one in each hole to ensure proper balance. Take your magnets and stick them to each other. Use a perminant marker and color the flat spots on both ends. Now each magnet should have one side colored (besure the magnets are stuck together when you do this). You will end up with one magnet colored on the positive side and the other colored on the negetive side. Now glue them in the fan with both colored sides facing out with 30 minute epoxy. That's it your done, if you want to remove the color just use a paper towel with a dab of rubbing alcohol.

You might want to consider a Thunder Tiger Redline 53H engine as well. Seems to make more power using less fuel. And you'll need to add a muffler to your list.

I think I get a muffler in the kit but not sure, and I ill deffinately check out the TT redline motor as an option. I just won the auction for a Raptor 50 v2 and its £190 under list price over here($351.50) or there abouts. I have seven days to check it all out or send it back if its no good. What a bargain.
