View Full Version : What are you going to run on your G5?
I've had a medusa in the past and was very impressed with it (and its ability to get hotter than the sun). Iam still unsure of what motor i will use.

How many amps does the Medusa 1700kv setup pull?
Just wondering how low of a c rated battery I could get away with. There are some other configurations which are a bit lighter.

The 1700 with a 11t pinion 2400rpm Hovering head speed in GOV mode with Kontroniks ESC was pulling 7-9 amp on average with peaks up to 21+ with this motor HC was getting 5.5minutes of Hard 3D flight, packs were around 105 degrees.
Never tested this setup on the Hobby Wing mainly due to no GOV mode ran straight curve i got a Tach'd head speed of 2780 at 100% throttle to get around 2400 rpm would put to much strain on the power system average flight time same about 5-5.5min
In my tests the 25C rating is optimum for this size pack anything less will generate to much heat and reduce flight time due to voltage sag at end of your flight. plus G5 is bigger heli with 50mm more disc the small amount of weight from batteries is meaningless

Thanks Charley, when are the new motors due to be released? I think I will wait for those over the medusa to get longer flight time.

What canopy color will be included with the G10 kit?

Gscott, right now I believe we are going to offer you these 3 color choices as canopies in the kit...as Charley posted in another thread...the canomod canopies will be available as an aftermarket type canopy soon after the release of the G5.

Thanks Greg. I was just curious since the preorder link at Helidirect doesn't allow a color choice. I personally prefer the black and green one. Ideally I would like one with a painted windshield since it helps me a little with orientation.

Thanks Greg for the info. So if you've already preorderd, will you be able to select not only the color canopy you want, but also what kit you want (G10, Silver or CF)? I preordered before the kit choices were available.

Gscott and WayneD...yes...when we contact you for payment (if you havent paid yet) we will get your canopy choice from you...and if you want a different frame material type...
Ultimately I imagine that there will be "favorite" color schemes and some canopies will get sold more than others...but those of you that preordered...should certainly get you choice of color schemes...
I am sure we will figure out a way to let the customer select both the canopy and the frame material using drop down boxes or something of that sort later down the road...

GregI'm wondering if I should preorder the Outrage G5 Black Carbon Frame kit now or wait until it is in stock (Saturday 31 Mai - next weekend, right?).
However, if I want the canopy in the middle on the attached picture, should I put a comment in the comment box?
Thanks,
Mathias Iam curious why you have chosen to go with the CF version.

Well, It's just that I have had good experiences with CF frames from my 450SE V2. Nothing special.
I asked this question earlier in this thread, and this is the answer Charley came up with: The differences with G10 over CF is G10 is Fiberglass and epoxy with black painted surface, CF is Carbon fiber fabric and epoxy both materials have strengths and weaknesses we anticipate having all 3 version upon release
Do you have anything to add, HFG? If you have any pros or cons to add, it would have been nice to hear. Always open for more inputs...
Thanks,
No, just curious of ppl's different reasons for picking which kit. I'am prolly going with the G10 for the added durability but iam open to suggestion. Motor selection is up in the air still.

Mathias,
Steven and the rest of the Team have been flying the G10 kit and it's quite strong to hold up to the flying that the Team has put them thru, it will come down to personal prefrence, I like the Silver frame myself and I'm sure others are going to want the black CF, but the G10 is also a very strong frame.

Yeah, I'm still not sure which motor to choose. I'll probably pop up some more choices very soon...

The carbon Fiber frame is the strongest frame material, the G10 would be cheaper to replace frame parts.

No I do not.... I'm still waiting on it's release like everyone else. Using my minds eye I think it's going to look hot with that combo.

Mathias, Jeremy
I know this isn't the G5 but here is a picture of Steven and my Rotorworkz G4 which is very silimar to the G5 frame and it will be the same Silver carbon.

I sure don't.... sorry.
I was under the impression G10 was the stronger of the two materials.
