I see the G5 pictures have all been updated now to show the Black Production FG Blades. I'm disappointed, it's a shame the G5 Production models don't come with the Carbontec Blades like the Pre-Pro models, these birds looked so "Cool" with those Black/Yellow blades.:bawl:smokin: I placed my pre-order while the Carbontec Black/Yellow blades were being shown, but I don't suppose that'll carry much weight. A line has to be drawn on cost somehwere I suppose, but it would've been nice to have gotten something out of the recent price increase, like perhaps the Carbontec blades as stock. Since the G5 is more about performance and less about looks, I suppose the sporty blades had to go.
Here's my G5 set-up: :woohoo

Wayne,
Great set-up, but I don't see a Heat Sink listed for that Medusa..! Most times the G5 team has talked about the Medusa 1700, or 1500, a Heat Sink has been mentioned in the same breath. Both the Medusa motors run very HOT, you'll need a heat sink for either one.
I had the Medusa 1700 on order, but changed over to the Outrage 1600 when I researched the Medusa's. The 1700 is a great motor with great amounts of power, but if you go to the Medusa web site you'll find that it's an inrunner motor, with no fan, very few vents, no heat sink ribs or any other means of processing the extremes of internal heat generated by intense 3D flying. And... it's 350W... should the Medusa be made to pull the full 350W load, that's equivalent to 3 and half 100 Watt light bulbs burning at full intensity. You couldn't begin to touch a 100W bulb without blistering your finger, let alone a 350W bulb. In the least, this means no back-to-back flights without a cool down in between, and common sense tells you what could happen if this cool down rule is neglected. Although the specs for the 1600kv are not listed, the Outrage 1600kv on the other hand is designed to deal more aptly with the heat, it's case is open and it has a cooling fan.
This is why I made the change. This is all my opinion of course, you're free to go with the Medusa, I myself, would've loved to have gone with the Medusa - there's no finer quality motor to be had, just be prepared to deal with the heat.

In a 350w motor only a small portion of that energy is being converted into heat *** hits hsimm on the nose with a rolled up news paper ***

But...yes Jeff Little at Medusa Research...does recommend using a heat sink with this motor...even more so with smaller MR-28-32-1500V2...
So,,,Wayne...if you don't have a heat sink I would recommend getting one...they fit perfectly on the motor and are cut to not hit the frames of the G5...and I believe they are only around $8...

hsimm and Greg,
I do have a heatsink for the 1700V2 motor. I updated my setup to include it. Greg, if you remember, you included this in your recommendation when I first considered the G5. Thanks for you input tho.

Wayne...sorry I didn't remember...lots of phone calls and PM's have all seemed to have rolled into one big one! :D

fsusmithc2,
You are going to like this setup, its bascally the same one Steven is flying with the exception of the Sparten gyro/9257 servo
I'm not sure if we have the latest setup on Steven's laptop or we used Charley's at the field, but one of us should have the CC HV30 configuration and that may help with the initial setup.

Wayne,
It appears my analogy may not have been well received. Was only trying to help, surely didn't mean to ruffle any fellow feathers, perhaps I should've minded my own affair.
Apologies! :Slap

I may update my gyro/servo package at some point but if I'm going to do that, I'd probably do it to my 600N first. I'll just "suffer" with a bit less tail authority for now. ;)
Yes, the HV30 configuration would be a cool thing to post, if it's "postable". I'm not sure how that goes as I've never had a Castle anything until now.
I've got another day yet it seems before the kit and most of the gear gets in as there was no big box at my door or in the parcel locker at the mail stand when I went home for lunch today. The HV30 was in a separate order from another vendor and should also be in tomorrow or possibly Wednesday.

Looks like I am going to be one of the only 3s guinea pigs! Saving funds for a 6s setup, but doesn't appear to be in the cards for now, tuition coming up + baby due in August means no budget for toys! So, here is what mine is going to be running for now:
Gyro - 2100t
Motor - Medusa 3400
ESC - CC 45
RudderServo - 9257
BEC - CC
Swash Servos - 65MG's
going into a G10 (shipped today, nice!) frame.
Gonna run a 10t pinion and see how she flies. Not being a 3d extraordinaire, I was getting pretty good flight times on the SEv2, so I can't see it getting any worse here with a much smaller pinion. Most of the time I am working on new stuff, so my adrenaline is kicking so high by the 3-4 minute mark I get shaky fingers and need to land anyways. lol I would have thought that would get better spending so much time in Phoenix, but no no... no such luck.

Ok the current setup (it got to me just as I was putting the motorhome in drive to go to the brooks funfly. good timing) is silver g5 with hs65's, outrage 1600kv outrunner, hobbywing p40 esc, 401/9650, 1300 6s outrage packs. The test flights whent great for the most part. This fly's solid. The down fall is when I got down to the end and set pinion mesh my locktite had been on the table all day, and it was hot, and did not set on the motor mount. :arggg: This let the motor shift slightly and dig into the gear. It did old for the weekend but once I had done the break in on the packs I was tuneing in the 401 and doing punch outs when it sliped. Wow that did not sound good. I got the gear replaced and am trying some differand gyro servo positions to get the 401 in the perfect sweet spot. Later I will put a 7703d on it but I just gutted my trex for servos, rx, and gyro for now. I want hs 5065's for the flybarless setup. I have tossed out that loctite that sat out in the heat as it will no longer set. Now to start setting up for a second g5. You guys are gona love this thing. It track varry well and takes the wind almost as well as a 50. The blades pass through the air quieter at 2400 hs.

HS,
You didn't ruffle any feathers at all. I'm fairly new to the heli hobby tho I've flown planes in the past, so all input/suggestions is well appreciated. No worries

Do you guys know if a Trueblood Swash Leveler will work on the G5?
Thanks,
If iam not mistaken the G5 shaft is the same dia as the align so it should work.

Yes both the Trueblood and Canomod swash tools work on the G5
