While Im at it
Here is my current setup

Hobbywing UBEC on 6vlt
Logictech 2100 with futaba 3154 servo

I'm starting to work out what I'm going to put in mine once Greg sends it to me. I'd like to stick with the setup Charlie is running since they're nice enough to throw in one of their 6s packs but of course, there are other options...
The Medusa 28-40-1700 seems fine but aparantly they have a new V2 version that seems to be a bit more powerful. I might as well throw in another $10 for that right?
http://www.medusaproducts.com/motors/028-V2.htm
Then there's the ESC/BEC. It looks like HeliDirect sells the HobbyWing Pentium 40 ESC and the 3A 5v/6v BEC so I could do that for not much $$. Any reason I should spend the extra money on the CC HV30 or HV45? Is the HobbyWing BEC fine or does it really matter that much? I usually like to buy components in matching sets so I'd probably want a CC BEC if I get a CC ESC then. Thoughts?
As for servos, I'm not sure yet if I'm going to steal the JR 285MGs out of my 450 or just buy the Hitec HS65MGs. The jury's still out on that one.
It's still about a month off before I get the kit anyway so there's plenty of time to think it over.

If it were me using the 6s 1300 packs I would go with a Jazz 40-6-18 & run it's built in BEC. The Kontronics Jazz ESC's are top of the line imho and is what I use in my Logo 6003D. It's easy to program and the governor works awesome. Next would be Castle Creations stuff.... I've use a lot of the CC stuff and never had a problem. Hobby Wing isn't something I've ever used so I can't really comment on it other than you get what you pay for. If your budget will allow go for at least a Castle. The Jazz if you want the best in soft start, reliability, governor mod and efficiency.

Thanks Jeremy, good points there. I've never heard of Hobby Wing before either but if Charlie uses them then it can't be that bad. Just depends on how much money I want to pour into my "free" helicopter. ;)

I know that heli has a very low amp draw on 6s so I'm sure the Hobby Wing ESC isn't being worked very hard no matter how you fly. It may be the hot ticket for this heli.
Good luck man and can't wait to hear how she flies!!!

Hey charlie, thank you for spending time talking about the Outrage at B-ham! with your current set-up, what amp draw (max and average) are you getting? A-main sells a 30 amp Scorpion 6s ESC with a swiching BEC, would that work in the Outrage? Also, I have some Fut 3156 MG, will they fit? I think that they are the same size as 65Mg's

I don't want to speak for Charlie but just to relay what I remember hearing about it; I believe Greg Alderman was telling me that the max draw they've seen is in the low to mid 20's and average is much less. Steven Fox is/was using the Castle HV30 with no problems I believe.
The Scorpion you're looking at would probably be fine. I'm looking at the HV45 just because of availability reasons. I'm sure the Hobbywing is fine but I'm willing to pay more for a name I know and for the USB connection. I'd do the Jazz but it's a bit much for my taste.
But don't take my word for it.... ;)

Here is a list of ESC's I have used or witness it being tested on G5 with 6s so far also in my opinion and all the Team pilots thus far we love GOV Mode the best performance wise and longevity of flight its been Awesome Experience!
Kontronik 40-6-18:
Thus far proven to be the Top Choice due to it simple set up and near flawless GOV Mode. Down fall is very pricey if you don't mind spend a little extra go here you won't regret it!
Castle Creation HV30:
Proven to work very good in GOV mode, Requires a little more setup using the program software and link all in all A+. Team pilot Steven Fox is running the speedy and we will be posting his program setup. so you won't have to tinker with it for the sweet spot.
Hyperion Titan 35amp:
It works great in fixed mode But we are still testing and fine tuning in GOV Mode using programer.
Scorpion Commander 30amp:
My opinion only, Not a good Speedy GOV mode not good at all, fixed throttle points not any better and be careful on soft start good way to lock up a one way or strip a gear.
Hobbywing Pentium 40 Amp:
Best Economical ESC fixed throttle points work flawless Soft start does not work so well so you have to spool up like a nitro Heli also no GOV mode but all in all i did initial test on G5 with this ESC and would recommend it to those on a budget!

Not sure about motor, maybe a scorpion or NEUI don't know of a Scorpion or NEU that's rated to run on 6s that's not a huge motor. As fare as I can tell Medusa is the only people I know of.

You can always make requests for custom setups for neu motors. You might try scorpion if you can get in touch with them.

I tried that once wanting a Lower kv and they said no.

If I could figure this darn Medusa "PowerProView" out I would let you know what the max and average amp draw was during one of HC's flight in Boston...Jeff Little was there with us and he sat down at my computer and did the graphing and stuff...but man is his program complicated...I told him "with all do respect" I am a knuckle head and just dont think I will ever take the time to figure his program at all and that I liked the simplicity of the Eagle Tree graphing program...but Jeff did let me know that they are working on a "lite" program with much less features...maybe I can figure that program out!
Anyway...as I remember average Amp draw during a "HC" flight was around 9Amps...with max peak Amps in the low to mid 20's...
Greg
Yeah but HC was just crack hovering, imagine the current draw with a real pilot :P

you know HC is going to smack you in "DEEZ" for that comment!
GOOD !! Iam pissed off at him. That punk needs to stop improving so fast so some of us can try and catch up.

Not sure if I posted this already...but with the 3D guys getting 6 minute flight...my little ole 2.25D flying style is getting 8 minute flights at 2600 headspeed and only putting in right at 1100mAh back into the 6S 1300 Outrage batteries! :D I had forgot what it was like to fly that long! It's tiring!
I sold my 2nd 450se few months ago expecting this or the Bandit to come out before the Canadian winter ended and i would be flying again. I've been suffering ever since, you really can't fly hard on just 1 heli. The down time between crashes has killed my confidence (Iam naturally a super pessimistic person). This has really hit home so i decided to just get both of them an a Logo 400 when it comes out late this summer..... Iam a glutton for punishment.
