I have a stock 550 with cnc head and I'm trying to figure out how to either make the 4s2100 18c packs that I already have for my Mini Titan work or if I can get something else that isn't going to cost me a small fortune (a123 cells maybe?)
I was thinking of trying a 4s2p 2100 setup since I can get these batteries for ~$70 from FMA Direct (CellPro Revolution), or go with a a123 pack from a Dewalt pack.
I just want as much flight time as possible for sport aerobatic flying.
I have RCP red-end belled 35/18/11 and a Z30a-1110 motors sitting here.

Seems to me with a 4s pack you are going to be running a really low headspeed about 1500 rpms...with a 15t pinion and the 1100 motor...
Not sure how an 18c pack will hold up....the 4s2p would be OK as far as the amp draw since each pack takes half the load...
You can get 2200 25c hextronic packs for about $27 from flying-hobby... I have about 6 flights on a pair of them and so far I am very happy....but I am running a Z20 motor wich is a LOT easier on the packs. tried some 2200 18c packs and they get a little hot and puffy.
Lots of people using the A123's do a search you'll find lots of info.

... or buy an ESC that can cope with 8S and double 'em up in series. Providing you keep the HS down (say 1900 - 2000) a CC HV45 would probably work and you'd see quite reasonable flight times. Jazz 55-10-32 would definitely work so if you like teh Jazz governor that might be the way to go.
You'd need to check that the z30 1110 can do 8S and gear appropriately... probably the 50t or 60t Gaui front gear.

i believe he means two of these in series. i puffed my fist pack using a pair of 18c 2100mah 3s1p (i was just hovering too) in my 550. just one pack puffed, but the other was hot as hell. i'd say you want a minium of 20c more like 25c or 30c. i run the same rcp motor that you have. it runs pretty hot and isn't too efficient, i've heard the z20 is very efficient and cool running. i don't really know if the z30 is more effcient then the rcp. i've got a dewalt pack to make some a123 packs, but have not assembled or run them yet so i cant' comment on that either.

Are you trying to fly 8s1p or 4s2p ?
