I have started to notice that my BC6 is now taking quite a bit longer to balance charge my 3S packs.

No matter what size of pack, 2200, 1800, 3300, 4100 Balance charging at 1C used to take on average 45 mins. Latley balance charging seems to be taking more than 90 mins.

I have my cut off timer set at 90 mins and i often reach this with out reaching full balance.

My packs have stayed in balance pretty well during use (Hurricane 550) so they are not miles out before balance charging.

If i charge in Non balance mode at the same charge rate they take about 35-40mins to charge.

Any reason why this might be?

is it possible for the balance circuits to be damaged in any way or for them to become uncalibrated?

I would like to shed some light on this as charging is now taking me forever especialy flying the hurricane with Two packs!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Ben

What we have seen in the past when this happens is that the internal resistance of the cells have increased and they have a harder time maintaining the voltage. Here is how you can tell.

Monitor the individual cells on the charger. When in CV mode and the charger has less than 500 mah charge rate, you will see the charger drop the charge rate to 0 amperage. When this happens, you will see 1 or more cells drop in voltage while the others maintain the voltage.

The charger will continually try to balance that 1 cell but at some point (other than timer shut off) will terminate the charge because that 1 cell just can't hold the voltage.

Is it possible that the internal balance circuits can be damaged?

how sensitive are they?

I had a cheap battery pack with an Align style balance tap that was wired up the wrong way round and caused a short.

this was some time ago and the charger seemed to perform fine afterwards its only recently that i have noticed that my packs are taking much longer to balance during the CV stage.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the quick response

Ben

While anything is possible, you may want to contact your dealer or Bantam directly and ask if the unit should be sent in to be checked out.

I thought that it didn't matter what mode you were in, that it would still balance the lipo

No. Normal lipo charge does not have the balancer activated.
