O.K. all you Ion-X drivers out there with 32-3's, how many of you would order a 100 tooth gear if it were available. I need to know because I want to order a bunch of these but cannot if the demand is not there.

This gearing change would take about 108 rpm off the head and reduce full throttle hovering current by about 5 amps. Or, alternately, you could run 710's for about the same current draw as you have now with the 9.5:1 ratio and 700's.

Best guess is that the gear would cost about the same as a normal main gear.

YEAH!! Count me in, I'll take two. :)

Will these require further modification to work with the original (Hacker) frames?

Thanks,

Chris,

I'm interested for my two ION's, but.......I would get more excited if this would *ADD* 100 RPM and use 5 AMPS less. Giving up any RPM on a eHeli is not good.

Is this a future 12s solution??

Aaaaah, but not if you get the payoff of more torque to pull more pitch. I have been using a 100 tooth gear for some time now on one of my ion's and it works quite well. Not as ballistic as the 9.5:1 ratio but longer flights and every bit as capable. Oh yeah, the 100 tooth gear I have was made on our router, not an option for production.

I would take several of those myself Chris.

Can you buy 100T gearstock?

Hi Al

No, we have them cut for us. I don't know how the shop that makes them does it though. I suspect that they at some point actually do have exactly that, a long bar of material with 100 teeth on it.

I'm running my Ion completley stock with the 54t gear, 690's and TP 4p's, so will this 100t gear work on mine ? will it be any better and why ? sorry if it's a dumb question.

Simon.

Simon

Nope! The 32-3 is an Actro outrunner motor that uses a single stage gearing setup. You are using the Hacker two stage setup and would never need this gear unless you made the switch to the Actro.

Longer flight times and lower head speed... i'd like to try one.

I might like one too, but that would be as soon as my Ion-X is back in flying condition...

Any mods needed to the frames (single stage config, Actro 32-3 etc...)?

Hello MHN

Yeah, to do the Actro conversion, a little grinding is neccessary to the stock Ion-X frames. This is to make clearance for the motor shaft on the bottom and fan on the top.

Current frames (which are available and shipping now) will no longer need to be modified.

We also have frames which are just for the big outrunners (i.e. cannot be used for two stage setups). These frames allow for huge gears, see Bobby's post showing his heli with a set of these here: http://www.helifreak.com/about6798.html

Jimmy , you get a Ion , if so , you will like it 5 times more than the Pred. which is in the same class as the CS conversion,
