I have been heli fan for a long time but somehow I didnot have time to enjoy this hobby and now i have found the time to fullfil my childhood dream .right now I am trying simulator flyning and planning to enter the real world soon. In the past several weeks I have read your PM and learned a lot from them.I`d lik som help to find the right gear for this wonderful mikado 500 3D even though it might take sometime to put it toghther in the mean time i improve my flying simulator.I would like some gear where i can enjoy both flying and some 3d action.I would apperciate your help.:)

If you go with a Hacker A40-10L 8Pole and a 6s Lipo you will need a 14 tooth pinion for learning if you use the mod .7 main gear.
Run 500mm main blades too. This will give you lots of practice time.

I don't know what your budget is but this is what I would buy for learning basic flight.
Logo 500 3D
Hacker A40-10L 8pole
500mm blades
Stock tail blades
BLS451 - cyclic
Curtis Younblood SolidG Gyro / BLS251 tail servo
Jazz 80-6-18
EVOlite 6S 5350
If your on a budget.....
Go with Futaba 9252 cyclic servos, Logictech 2100T gyro, 9254 tail servo, look for a used Lipo, charger & balancer.

Jeremy's suggestions are pretty spot on. If you do go for the budget setup you may want to consider the Futaba 401 gyro. The Logitech is a fine gyro but can be less intuitive to setup. Either one will work fine and i used a 401 on my Trex 600 up until just recently. If your going high end gyro that you won't grow out of the Solid G is a good suggestion as well as the Spartan DS760. There a little tough to find right now cuz it's a hot item, but for good reason. It works well and is extremely small and light.

Yes I agree with Big Fil, the 401 is a nice gyro and another good choice. You can buy them used for about $95. I own 2 of them and never had a problem with how they work.
Big Fil.. Doesn't Spartan make a sport gyro? I think it's called a 650???

I'd agree with all the above - also good alternative servos are the Hitec 6965 on cyclic - they're lightening fast and gears are a bit tougher than the 9252. For the ESC I'd think of the 55-10-32 Jazz as this will work fine for the 6S but also cover your for 10S if you ever want to go up to the Logo 600 - it doesn't have a regulator so you could use the Align 6A reg. I think the Hacker motor great and maybe would think of generic carbon 550 blades as they dampen it down a little - at the expense of some flight time as Jeremy says.
The Logo 500 is a great introduction to the hobby as you can tame it down or liven it up and the 6S lipos are certainly easier on the pocket than 8s and 10s

You guys have touched on the last question for my build. I finally decided on all the electronics. The last question is on the blades. The range for the Logo 5003D seems to be 500 to 560. I got a set of 500mm carbons with the package that I bought. Should I just start with them? Would woodies be better? I'm still a newb on the flying and still running woodies on my TREX 450.
EDIT: Another question. John, what do you consider generic 550mm blades? It looks like Heli-Max has some 530 and 550 carbons for a reasonble price. Has anyone tried them?
Thanks.

I just plain don't like woodies on helis bigger than 325s - too much potential problem with balance, roots coming off, film coming off - by generic I meant anything cheap and not Brand labelled eg SAB / MAH / Rotortech. I get far and away the most zip from Rotortech 516s. The MAH 516s are a bit heavier and probably my favourite. The generic 550s are heavier still and tone down the heli. I would gibe the Heli-Max ones a go - maybe try each size !

If you run a Jazz 80-6-18 ESC it has a built in BEC that works great so I'm told by owners. If you do need a separate BEC that will be way down the road when your really "Banging the Sticks", you should be fine with the Jazz built in BEC for a very long time.
As for another pinion.... it's up to you but sometimes it's nice having a second or third pinion laying around to play with your headspeed. You may want to pick up a 15 tooth pinion to have on hand but I think the 14 will do you right until you start really flying hard.
