Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and also new to RC Heli's. I've probably bitten off more than I can chew here, but after much research I got caught up in the excitement over the T-Rex 500 and took the big plunge last Saturday.

I bought the whole kit. Transmitter, servos, battery, charger, AC converter, and an assortment of tools. I purchased everything at once from one local hobby shop that specializes in RC Helicopters. I had a few days off from work last week and spent the majority of free time in this shop. Guys there were really great and patient answering all of my noob questions.

I've watched "Finless Bob's" unbelievably great build videos but noticed that some of my add-on components are different from what he used in his video build. So I wanted to get some objective opinions on the stuff I ended up with.

T-Rex 500 CF with CF blades included in the kit
JR z3650 servos (3)
Futaba 9650 servo (1)
Futaba GY401 Gyro
Spectrum DX7 Transmitter for Heli's
Align High Power Li-Polymer 25C, 22.2V, 2500 mAh 6s battery (label says its for the 600)
Thunder Power TP-610C Balancer & Charger
Pro-Peak 13.8v power supply for AC conversion

Just want to get some opinions on this combination of components with the T-Rex 500 kit.

Thanks in advance for any input or comments.

That will work great. The servo's you got are good servos. I personally would have a different tail servo (s9257) but the one you have will work good too.

Where did you get your kit? I just finished mine last week. Since I'm new, I will let my LHS do the final trimming and fly test. I can probably do it myself but i want to start from a good set. There are some changes that Bob mentions on his videos that now show on the new manual. Since you are using the 7 channel Futaba radio, you will probably need to watch the set up for the TREX 450, the part where he sets up the radio since on that build, he uses that radio. Good luck!!!

The battery from Align 6S2500mah will work on the 500 just find.I would not run it on my 600, it would be a short ride. I run Flight Power 5000mah battery gives me 51/2 mins, flight times. Good luck on you build welcome to the club.

Thanks to all who responded to my post.

It looks like the consensus of opinion on the tail servo is for the 9257. I called my LHS today to ask why they gave me the 9650. I spoke with their heli expert and he said it was because they did not have any 9257's in stock and hadn't had for at least a month. He said the 9650 would be fine. He said that he uses the Z3650's for his non-tail servos in his 500 because he likes the speed and metal gears.

To answer a few of your individual questions:

1) I purchased my stuff from the "Hobby Hangar" in Chantilly, Virginia. I'm new to the hobby but this shop seems like the "Real Deal". Great guys who really want their customers to succeed in the hobby. Very friendly and knowledgeable. This shop is a lot of fun just to walk into on a Saturday afternoon.

2) My transmitter is the Spectrum DX7 not the 7 channel Futaba as one responder thought.

3) I will be happy to give a full report on this setup as soon as I get her built. It may be awhile as my wife just had knee replacement surgery today and I'm running our entire household completely by myself. I did take my 500 manual with me to the hospital today and studied it for several hours while I was waiting for her to come out of surgery.

Thanks again for your supportive replies. It is very much appreciated! This forum is great!

The spion rate on my 9650 is unreal on my 450.

Its not as quick with my 9257 with step down on the 500. I would seriously try a 9650 on a 500. Great servo when run at 6v

mk1spitfire,

I will be trying the 9650 on my 500 (for my tail servo) primarily because its all that I currently have.

We'll see how well it works. Since I'm new to this, I probably won't be able to tell whether it's good or not.

Thanks,

DH
