How many people have had issues with their display?

So far, it is 2 for 2 at our field that has had to send in the 14MZ for display warranty (I hope).

The first was being used on a cold day, 30°F, and the display shattered while being used.
I do have to qualify that to say that the individual was not really touching the screen but more like poking at it with his finger (he was very P.O.ed at his plank for crashing due to pilot error).

I have noticed that in very cold weather, the display does react even slower than normal.

I just sent mine back in because there is an area near the bottom center of the screen that requires extreme pressure to activate.
By extreme pressure, I mean that I have to push hard enough to cause my fingernail to turn white from the pressure, and the colors in the display washout from the deflection of the glass. The required pressure in this area has been getting greater over time.
I would start with a very light touch and slowly increase pressure till it registered.

Jeff, did you try recalibrating the screen? I know a few people that had problems with having to press hard, then after recalibrating it worked just fine. I don't know of any standard problems developing with the screen. No info on the Futaba team list or anyplace that I am aware of. That being said, it is still very possible for a few to go bad and I would expect that.

So far I use mine about 3-4 batteries worth per week. Mine is holding up very well.

Good info too keep an eye on though, but so far so group problems as far as I know.

I have tried recalibrating several times, no difference.
I run two bateries in a day of flying, 3-4 times a week, thats 6-8 bateries per week plus many many hours on the bench.
I got my radio the first day that they were available to mere mortals, back in march.

Sounds like it goes to hobby services. Sucks, but I am sure there will be some things that don't work right on some radio's. Too many parts for a few things not to act up once in a while.

i managed to break my display but it was my fault for pushing too hard. hobby services had it back to me inside of a week. I am more conscience of how hard I push now though. aside from that I have not had any problems with it.

It seems that the calibration process is meant more to establish proper screen coordinates and doesn't do anything about pressure sensing. I've been trying to stick with the stylus after reading posts of folks having trouble with the screen while fingering it :) :dontknow

Above is a tool (stylus) that will clip onto the handle of the 14MZ. It is made from the screwdriver that comes with the GY gyros and the GV1.
Cut the tip of the blade of the screwdriver off some, and slip a piece of fuel tubing onto the shank.

I use the above what DavidH has posted, just a gentle light presure is needed. (several made up aswell, as I am always misplacing them  )

I also find if you are in a rush it makes you want to press harder because it is a little slow in responding, compared to say a JR10X.

It was also my understanding that the calibration was for screen coordinates but that is the first question that hobby services asks if you call with any screen issue.
It has been shipped to Hobby sevices they got it on 7-1 and there website indicates that the screen was replaced today 7-5 under waranty.
Hopefully I will have it back by the weekend.

And no JR10X is not even an option, but that is another thread.

Well I recieved my 14 back today 7-7.
The display was covered under waranty and replaced.
The new screen has such a light touch to it that it almost accepts the input before you can feel the contact with your finger, I LIKE IT.
It even came back 2nd day air, no charge, although I think I would have recieved it faster by ground, it only had to go ~100miles.

In the note that I included with the TX explaning the problem I also requested to purchase some other unrelated spare parts. Those were included in the waranty repair at no charge.

For those that say Hobby Services is so bad all I can say is six days from my door back to my door, with the 4th of July weekend in the middle, and the spare parts that I ordered were thrown in free.

I am glad you had a good experience. It is always not good to have problems, but how they handle the issues is what it really important. I am sure you will always get 1st class service for your 14MZ. Hobby services has always impressed me.
