View Full Version : Anyway to use the switches on my Futaba 7C ?

Is there anyway I can assign or use any of the switches on my Futaba 7C 2.4 Ghz radio to say a throttle hold action or anything for that matter?

I've played around and all Phoenix seems to be able to use is a variable pot.

Thanks

Phoenix (or any other sim, for that matter) will only see the same channel inputs as a device connected to a receiver would. For throttle hold, the throttle servo (nitro heli) or ESC (electric heli) sees a sudden drop in control input and reacts accordingly. To get that behavior in the sim, you need to set up throttle hold on your radio just like you would in real life. The sim will then see the same control input drop and will react in the same way. To get the full experience, the model in the sim needs to be set up like a real heli mechanically, e.g. without expo or dual rates; the expo, dual rates, etc., would need to be set up in the radio.

Hey TheBum, boy you sure seem to be the poor guy who ends up answering a lot my questions huh.

So if I understand you correctly the action of that switch and its effects are within the radio and is not a separate channel.

I just got this radio and I really haven't had the time to read the book much, since its for a heli and has a switch designated for it that I would have thought it would have already been setup for that but maybe its not?

Do know much about this unit if it is or not?

It the 7C 2.4 Ghz Futaba Helo version, I believe its basically the same as the 7CP unit just its 2.4 Ghz.

I guess I should point out that the reason I was looking into this was to practice Auto's and I believe that is how you do this.

Thank you

Ok TheBum, I just read the book and your info helped.

It was not setup natively to work so I just turned it one a wallah worked like a charm.

Thanks man.

You know I went to a show a few weeks ago and was asking a Futaba guy about using this Radio in the Sim and he told me that non of the inner functions of the radio would work and that it would just act as a set of gimbles but now I'm not so sure. I'm not saying he's wrong but he also said that I wouldn't even be using the on/off switch and that as soon as I plug in the USB cord it would just come on by itself and that isn't the case either.

Thats kinda why I haven't really read the manual yet as I'm just using for the Sim at this point as I still have to build my first TRex that I go this for so I didn't think knowing about any of the features would have had anything to do with anything.

Now if someone could just explain to me how to get it to retract gear?

He may have been thinking about the Spektrum DX7, which does do this.

I don't know anything about the Futaba, but on the DX7, if you don't mind setting the gyro gain in the sim rather than from the radio, you could assign the Gear channel to the Gear switch on the radio and then map the Gear channel to the retracts in the sim.

I would reccomend that you set expo on your TX to 0. If you use expo on the sim, you can have a custom amount for each model, much like each model setup on the TX.
Expo in Phoenix is opposite to Futaba by the way. In the sim use + numbers to "soften" control.

It's a trade-off. If you set up expo in the sim, you can't have separate expo settings for different positions of the flight mode switch.
