I must be sick. I recently started ff on my .30 and here I've gone and ordered a hyper .50 and upgrade kit. I was looking for a pipe for the new hyper and noticed I can get an older LOUD CY muscle pipe for about half of what I can get a newer quiet CY pipe for, around $80. Also in the running is Horizons 50 pipe and heliproz 50 pipe, both around $40. I'm not even considering the JK Hatori because of the price.

Probably wont make much difference now but in a month or so I'll be alot further along so I don't want to have to upgrade again. All these pipes have their supporters in the forums too but I've gotten to where I trust the freaks for good advice.

If your club doesn't have any problems with the sound emission I'd take the LOUD version.

A real heli addict knows its music that comes out of a muffler.

How is the performance of the CYII compared to the Hatori JK pipe?

Get the JK Hatori for the most power.

Not to highjack this thread, but has anyone had problems with the two piece clamp that Hatori uses?

Two piece clamp works fine with the larger 90 size mufflers when assembled correctly. I don't see why it would be a problem with a 50 size muffler. I believe Jason Krause is using the stock clamp on the muffler on his Raptor 50.

I am going to put some washers inbetween the two halfs of the clamp otherwise the gap will bend the ends if overtitghtened.

You will not need the washers, the clamps conform to the shape of the pipe when carefully tightened.

As to performance, I have both the MP2 and the Hatori. The Hatori is a very noticable increase in power over the MP2. Ask BDIS, he bought the Hatori this weekend at IRCHA, replaced his MP2, did not change anything else other than tweak his neeldles a little and he was shocked and delighted with the extra power.

The Hatori looks to be 40.00 more than the MP2.

Many thanks I did put the washers in only because the nuts supplied were normal nuts and with the 3*M3 washers in the middle it meant that i could really do them up tight without bending anything. I cannot belive how much quieter the new pipe is, i still need to run it in a bit. Someone on this forum said to run 5 gallons through it, this seems a bit excesive. The instructions that came with the engine said it did not need alot of running in. Can anyone help?

Hello all,

I am running in a new OS .50 SX-H (not HYPER) in my Evo .50. I presently have the Muscle Pipe II quiet version. I have about 8 tanks thru it, and the main needle is around 1 1/4 turns out, idle mixture at the factory "centered" position. Making pretty good power, but not mind blowing. Fuel economy is just over 12 minutes on the main tank before it gets to the header

So, my three questions are....

1) What are you guys seeing as a main needle setting with the standard .50, 30% Magnum, and temps in the 70s?

2) I have a 60B carb from an OS .61 WC engine, worth putting in?

3) Is the OD of the Hatori pipe the same as the .90 pipes? I have some good brackets I made that fit them, and would like a more substantial mounting solution that the factory system.

Thanks,

tim

When I was running the standard OS 50 I was about 1 turn out on the high end needle with 30% fuel. The 60B carb is a nice addition especially if you already have one on hand. Allows you to tune that midrange where the stock carb doesn't.

I have run both the MP2Q and the hatori JK muffler on my evo 50. I know its hard to stomach the price of the hatori, but the engine purrs and loads of power. 2 piece clamp is crappy, but I haven't had an issue with it.
