OK well im getting together a heli for the vegas funfly so if you there you will get to see a wicked HDX 500... Right now I am going to be Flying the HDX 500 SA version but going to order a cnc head block and grips. Here is what the setup will be...
HDX 500 SA
CNC Head block
CNC Main grips
Maxwell 260 DS MG servos (digital .12 and 57 oz) cyclic
Gy 401/9254
Stock outrunner motor
Hobby Wing 60 Amp esc
2 Kong Power 2200 3 cells (in series) 2200 6 cell 25 C
425 mm RCP CF mains
Berg 7 reciver
Futaba 7 CHP Tranmitter
Being a hard 3D pilot i want to test this helicopter compared to a T-rex 500.. I like both equally right now but that might change because I have not flown an HDX yet. Im also going to be using T-rex 500 paddles...
I will kepp you guys updated daily with pictures and eventually video... I might even do Flybarless... :D
Check back soon...
Thanks Devin..

Will the stock motor be able to handle 6S?
Will the 96tooth main gear still be in one piece after sticking all that power at it?
I cant keep my main gear in one piece over 10' collective pitch and thats on 4S.

Well i hope... It will... (....)
lol
We'll see.. and it will handle 6 cell with the stock motor...
Thanks

ok well, I got my 3DX 500 today.. I dont know if its the helidirect brand. but all the plastic quality was very nice on the 3DX... This is a very nice looking heli and so far so good... I spent about 6 hours working on it.. I still need a good tail servo but for now im using a 311 just to get by for testing... I did a quick test hover and blades were right on track and it was very smooth... My setup is listed above.. Video to come!!
Thanks

HI Devin
Forgive me if I am wrong!!!
But I thought you want to run a 6S setup, it looks to my eye that the plug you have made is a Parallel adaptor, therefore giving you a 3S2P pack (or are those packs 6S each?).
It also looks like the front two servos should get turned around so that the output link to the swash would be more vertical like the rear cyclic servo (output shaft of the servo towards the rear of the heli).
Looking forward to the videos

I put the servos like that because i can get alot more throw with it, either i have no throw (not enough for hard 3D) or have the links a little tilted and have a ton of throw...I tried 3 cell for the first few flights just to get used to it... I have the series and parellel adapter and series adapter ready to go....
Thanks

Hi Speed Stick,
You have chosen very problematic platform for 3D flying. I agree that parts quality is quite ok, but heli design is bad. You will deal with insufficient tail authority, insufficient collective range, slow cyclic, small diameter main gear, problems with CG etc.
You can solve some problems with upgrade parts. However it eats a lot of time and money. Now it is difficult to track which parts are v1, which are v2, which are for SAH, which are for SE.
I will be surprised if your main gear will hold with 16T pinion and 6s setup either. I have eaten three gears already. Gear strips immediately you start doing tic tocs.
I would not recommend investing too much into this heli.

kva

my CG is perfect. I dont have any problems with my tail, Im using a 300.00 gyro/tail servo combo.. And my cyclic is insane fast.. Im running a costom flybarless head..
Thanks..
Pics to come :D :D :D
Speed stick 3D,
you changed your setup from 6s to 4s and from stock tail blades to align 500 tail blades, from 401+9254 to 300usd tail gyro/servo combo. As the owner of this heli I know the reasons for those changes. You do not talk about them. Tail has insufficient authority and there is no working 6s setup because of gearing problems. This is problematic heli and I do not see the reason to promote this heli before the problems are solved by vendor.
