I picked up a Hobbico digital tach today at my LHS. I always wanted to know the head speeds for my heli's.
Test on the Gaui 200 were ran with e-flite 2S and 3S batteries at zero pitch 100% throttle and wood blades.
2S head speed = 3750
3S head speed = 5170  scarry stuff with woodies
I could actualy smell rubber (faintly) after running the 3S for three minutes. I'm not sure if it was the belt, belt guides, motor, combination of all three or what but man was that head hauling the other word for donkey!!!!
I don't know why my 2S head speed is so high but I like it. The 3S head speed is nuts but I can't wait for my eye to heal and take it outside.
Thought you guys might like the info.

How much was that tachometer? Wow, for some reason I thought they would be expensive, about $25, sweet. Sorry answered my own question there.

:shock:dude, you gotta post a video of that crazy headspeed.
buzz, i spray a little silicon spray on the tail while i turn the blades with my hands. it did the same on mine, but not anymore. every once in a while i give the head a shot of silicon too.

Wow, I don't see the point of going 3s, that's a lot more weight.... 2s seems to suit me well. I have tried eflight 2s, which are 8c I think, and head speed is a lot lower than my megapower 12c (fits inside the frame) & thunder power 16c (will not fit inside frame). I have made a slanted battery tray so that I can get the cg higher and run the wider packs. I'm not sure what my head speed is, but sounds a heck of a lot higher than the eflight 2s.... I'm surprised it's THAT high, that's nuts.

Don't shoot the messenger. I like the high 2S head speed. The 3S head speed I admit is a little crazy but, wouldn't it be fun to fly?
I'll make a vid soon so you guys acan see the tach working. I've heard it's accurate to 100-200 rpm.

Lol no shooting intended buzz! I really appreciate you posting about this, always been curious what the head speed is, and would like to find out what I am running at too now. I am not knocking 3s, I am just scared of it! too rich for my blood, 2s is way more than I can handle on this little thing, don't think I'd be trying it. But... I do have some 3s laying around...... lol

Well you got me curious buzzkill, so I picked up a tach today from my LHS today...
my headspeeds with a 2s thunder power 910 16c: with 0 pitch and 100% throttle & plastic blades, I get 4300, by the end of 4 mins it dropped down to around 4100
with 2s mega power 850 12c, it is just a tad lower, around 4200-4000

i'm not positive, but i think headspeed is supposed to be measured at a hover.

they have optical, and laser tachs that you can be 50 ft away. get ready to part with a pretty good chunk of change though.:wow2:sticker shock
