Hi all

As requested in the subject, could somebody please measure the distance between the frame sides, where the battery is mounted on the Gaui 200?

I need to know exactly how much space is available for batteries, as they are difficult to find that small.

Thanks

Peter

I'll measure it tonight when I get home unless someone else gets to it first.

Great thanks.

Is it really not possible to fly with batteries larger than 800-850 mAh 2S on the Gaui 200?

I have just fallen in love in this little bird, and today I could not resist:

Quite an offer - right? ;)

it is possible to fly with bigger lipos,in fact i fly with 3cells kokams, but the battery is in front of the frame in a "standing" position. no issues though. and the pendulum effect from the extra weight is non existent that way.

Hi T-driver

Thanks for your input.

Do you happen to have some pictures of your setup?

I am mounting the battery slanted to accept wider packs. Pic here shows a 2s 1350 mah, it works fine but too heavy for my taste, there isn't much of an increase in flight time because of the weight. I now use 2s 910 & 850 mah. Wider packs are quite a snug fit for the plastic light weight canopy, but works ok for the stock FG canopy.

what flight times do you get? (with what fly style)

I have my timer set to 4 mins, by the time I come in to land it's usually around 4.5 mins, and runs the battery down to 3.6 per cell. This is with idle up most of the time at 100 flat, and/or 100 90 100. My flying style is... hmmm the best way to describe it is.... nothing to write home about :) I've posted the vid here a couple of times already, but here it is again:

great flying.... :noteworthy

but 4.5 mins seems too less.
i never flown it on 2S,only on 3S 910's i already had from a previous heli about the same size and weight. (walkera 64C)
and my flight times are 11-12 minutes sport flying around, no inverted.
motor has 3800kv and 12T pinion. (may try the stock motor on 3S and 12T this week)

How do you mount your batteries? Between the frames or "on top of the nose" (best way I could describe it)

Do you happen to know the weight of your 3s batteries? I will try to find the same "energy" with 2 s packs.

Thanks.

But it does not look as you have to have your battery between the frames.

Some have (larger?) batteries "on top of the nose".

What is the "maximum" battery size you can realistically run on this little tiny bird?
I would like flight times a little over the 5 minutes you can get out of a 2s 800mAh.

Thank you all.

None of my helis run more than 4-5mins, so I'm used to the flight time, and just have batteries in hand. I used to think 4 min is too short, but I like the high headspeed, and honestly anything more than 5 mins at a time, my brain wonders and I loose concentration lol :)

the pic that I posted earlier has the battery "on top of the nose", and 2s 1350mah that is too wide to fit inside of the frame. Again, not really an increase in flight time as it weighs more and sucks up more juice. I prefer the smaller 800-900mah range with high c rating. You could run lower throttle curve and maybe get a bit more out of it, but I really like my head speed. Batteries at this size are cheap, just get more!

Thanks a lot, and I get your point! :happyd

At my favorite battery shop www.hobbycity.com I can't seem to find "suitable" batteries for the Gaui. Where do you buy yours, and what brand?

I am using:

megapower http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=377&products_id=2035 which fits inside the frame, so you don't have to do the "on top of nose" thing.

and

thunder power http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/2_389_409/products_id/17965 will not fit inside of the frame. And is about double the cost of the megapower, but runs slightly higher headspeed.

I have tried 2s eflight & 2s commonsense rc as well... i think they are both 8c. They fit inside of the frame, but the head speed is quite a bit lower.

buy the gaui batteries. 2s 800mah. best money i ever spent. i'm happy with my headspeed and flight times. 5 minutes easy stuff. the only way to find them that i found, was to surf the suppliers. every once in a while, someone will have them in stock. don't wait, buy them.
