I remember watching my buddies doors being locked open on an idle downline from the positive pressure inside the fuse... Once he punched the throttle they'd suck back up and close.

yep.. its pretty easy for that to happen. these gear have to get up as quick as possible else their is chance of the gear jamming on the doors.

This project will be on hold until the first of august.. and it might be longer as that, as i believe i'm going to take the air-start engine i have for this and buy a Comp-Arf "flash" sport jet to throw around for the rest of the season. That way it will give me time to find another auto-start turbine for the F-18 so i dont have to put $1000 into "upgrading" the air-start to autostart, when i can be patient for a few months and get an autostart turbine for $1000-1500 and have 2 jets flying.

Work will still carry on this project, just at a slower pace, as i'll be moving alot of stuff in it (like the entire air system control plate) so i can install a scale cockpit, etc.

I noticed a few things that you may or may not want to add. The current F-18s have some small fins added to their fuse just aft of the cockpit on both sides that NG found corrected a small aerodynamic problem. Look for some recent pictures of the Blue Angels and you can see them pretty easily. Also they have electroluminescent looking light stripes on them for night ops. When off they appear a sort of sickly green color and if I remember correctly light green when on. There are a pair on the nose and tail and some on the fins as well. I have a video of a night CRT launch where you can see them clearly from our last deployment but it's 30MB...

I just looked and I have another picture but I'll have to edit it a little after work.

Looks great - very nice work man! I'm sure the detailing was tedious, but well worth it. (I'm surprised nobody pointed out the bottle of Jagermeister in the first photos!)

I will keep an eye on this thread. This is expensive. I don't think I will ever be able to spend that much money on just one thing... but again... I never thought I would spend a few thousands in helis either :YeaBaby:

Don't hold your breathe. Tom is thinking about getting another beater jet when he comes back before he finishes this project. Damn plankers :)

Can't say for certain on the close-open time of the speedbrake on a F18...but on the F15 it's less than one second. I hear it everyday over my house. From the crew chiefs I've talked to, it'll toss a guy 20 feet so it's quick.

sounds about right to me... mines farely quick in its actuation speeds :)
