The first turbine of 2 will be here tommorrow or saturday, but i'm still on the hunt for one more.

You know, the BD5 doesn't take up much less room and probably doesnt cost much less - hint hint!

lol.. i sold the BD5.. didn't have the time or the funds to dedicate to that project. this one will be less than $5k, and the bd-5 was going to be $5k for just an engine and fuel system, then another $5k for avionics and instruments, not to mention hanger fee's, paint, and all the other little stuff that nickel and dimes you to death.

Well I guess you made the right choice. Beautiful Jet!

This one is probably safer too.

Unless that is a really small screwdriver, the turbine is much larger than I imagined.how much fuel will it burn?

its bigger than most.. thats screw driver is about 9" long. it burns 12oz/min at full power producing 28lbs of thrust. the plane will carry 200oz of useable fuel for 2 turbines.. so 100oz per turbine = 8mins of flying w/o a reserve. so about 6minutes of flight time.

We need a size reference, take a photo with a baseball or something beside it .... but its still a damn plank :)

wouldn't it be easier to just fly the thing through a dust storm then sanding it by hand ?

Will this thing stay under 55 pounds fueled?

Here's the past 4 days progress on the plane while i wait for a $500 parts order for the gear system and the stuff to finish the bulkheads and wings. Then all the fun gets to start. Anyone wanna but a 90 size heli so i can get my 2nd turbine? lol

Will this thing stay under 55 pounds fueled?

the plan is for it to be around the mid 30's dry. it holds 200oz of fuel which is roughly 11lbs. so i'm shooting for a finished weight with fuel of 46lbs, which gives me a dry weight of 34-35lbs to shoot for. Then i'll have two 28lb thrust turbines in it (so 56 total) and a 46ish lb airplane.. should be a good flying bird for the grass strip i fly off of. after all its only a 1.21:1 thrust to weight ratio :D

I'm putting ALOT of effort into keeping this plane light. Hence the reason for stripping all of the old paint off. I'm not going crazy w/ the mods to keep it strong either. the main mods its getting are already done to the forward spar carry thru bulkhead. the rest of them are small things (like a brace for a main landing gear door stop, a brace for the forward portion of the main landing gear mount plate, and a carbon fiber doubler plate on the top of the main landing gear plate (all of these mods are 1/16" carbon fiber plate). I'll have to get a scale sometime soon so i can weight the plane right now to see what it weights, but i think its about 15lbs. so that gives me 20lbs of play for all of the "stuff" to go in it.
