My 550 is a little over a year old, stock motor, 401 gyro, cc60 esc with cc external bec, futaba servos. My flying is basic FF with no 3D (yet), I would like to know what upgrades make sense for how I fly. I'm looking for 7min flight times. It has been suggested to me to keep as much plastic as possible causing less damage in a crash and cheaper to fix. What are the essentials to make this heli great?

For me, CNC elevator crank if you don't already have it, CNC flybar cage cause I just hate setting up the non-caged units like it is stock, the CNC antirotation bracket really helped straighten out the heli in FFF loops. And a good set of Carbon Fiber main blades. I just got some RCP V2 500mm blades and they are very nice. I've not had a chance to fly on them yet though. For motors the Z20 980kv motor is a good upgrade for what you want and you can use the stock esc. Not much more power then stock but more flight time because it's more efficient. I've also gone with the boom shortening kit but kept the 500mm blades. They clear fine so far. The shorter boom helps with the CG if you use lighter packs.

+1 on the rcp II 500mm mains. for the price you'll not find better blades out there and the fit and finish of the v2's are top quality. although i can't notice a difference between flying v1 or v2's. does anyone know of RCP's website? i googled it, but came up with nothing. there has to be a company somewhere though lol. they make blades, motors, ect.

the only upgrade the Hurricane "needs" are the CNC elv arm, and metal blade grips for once you are running over 2k head speed, if you get the Z 20, also get the grips, and yes the RCP blades are a good move up as well, but only if you are getting into some mild 3d. they do raise the crash cost. the other stuff is nice but not "needed" some just looks good and some makes it easier to set up, but once set up no major difference. as some of the parts wear like the pitch slider, I would replace with metal.
now if you want faster roll rates you can add longer flybar or different paddles, if you have the long boom the short does look better and might balance better depending on your battereis.

I flew the woodies for a long time even mild aerobatics, don't worry you will break them and at $17 per blade strike is not too bad or a crash kit of $29 you can 3D all you like. With carbon blades it a minimum of $60 per crash. Most important is to move to a better motor like the Z20 and you will get 7 min on 2500 pack with mild aerobatics.

Thanks for the replies, what size pinion with the Z20 are you using and what headspead?
