I have to do a shoot that requires a fairly wide angle and which will be enlarged and framed for presentation as a gift.
The wide angle lens is on order but not yet arrived and I need to have the shoot completed by today.
Any suggestion as to the best setting??
The A640 has "L" through to "W" as the resolution settings.

What are you shooting from? A mast or aircraft/heli?
If it's with the mast then you can 'simulate' a wide-angle lens by taking four images in a grid:
O O
O O
and then dropping them onto PTGui (http://www.ptgui.com).
If it's from an aircraft/heli then you just have to shoot as many pictures as possible of the target and hope that some will overlap enough to give you the wide-angle view you need .... Either that or fly further back ;)
Again, it depends on the application ... if it were on a mast I would suggest using Manual mode (if you have a downlink) and an aperture of around F5.6 - this is around the sweet spot for maximum sharpness. Then adjust the shutter speed to suit the exposure. If you don't have a downlink, set it to Av mode and F5.6 ... it will pick the best shutter speed. If it's from a aircraft/heli then you want to use a good fast shutter speed of 1/400s upward. Set the camera to Tv mode and set the shutter speed to 1/400s and take some test shots - increasing or decreasing the shutter speed depending on the conditions ....
Hope this helps :)

PS. Use the L setting for resolution and Superfine for the image quality.
