I have a quick question about the metal main grips.. do they still have a pressed in thrust bearing that requires heat to remove (to grease it)?? it just seems to me that f they do that's a pain in the A$$ setup. if not, then that helps me on another choice for a 550 option :D

I got a set about a month ago and they are the pressed in type...had to heat in the oven to get them out...

I think Gaui needs to work on that part of the design.. there's no need to have them pressed in like that......what's a safe head speed on the plastic grips? I'm not into 3D.. in fact, I'm still in hover mode, but will hopefully be doing FF by the time I get my H550...

i ruined my bearings removing them, although gaui stepped up to take care of me. i don't like the idea of sending my grips in every time i need to lube/change my bearings. i'm almost considering milling a thousandth of an inch off of the inside where the bearings go, and just use some green threadlock to bind them. just be careful if you remove them.

It seems everyone recommends using metal grips when youare going to be over the 2000 rpm mark....I'm sure it will go more than that as it wasn;t designed to be run at just 1800 , but as more powerful motors came out and everyone started increasing the power...it just good practice to go to the metal grips.

Many people fly with plastic grips and wood blades and it does just fine...

ok... as long as I don't have to worry about the grips failing at moderate head speeds with either a Z20a-980 or the 1100kv stock gaui... that's would be my biggest fear.. throwing a blade while at a park and hitting some kid... while flying my BH450 yesterday some idiot mother didn't seem to care that her 3yr old daughter was walking out into the middle of a soccer field to get a better look and the helicopter... I saw her out of the corner of my field of vision and hit the throttle hold... then stepped in front of her to keep her from running into the blades that were still spinning...only took the lady 10 tries to get the kid to come back to her... geeeeez

I know I have a hard time finding good flying sites, I envy some of the guys I see flying in fields that look like they are 5 miles around.....!!

Flying at a non-approve model is always a problem.....I had a group of guys just drive right up next to me so they could see better, the problem was i could'nt see better...almost hit their car....

We always need to be careful.....the last thing I would want is to hit a child....or anyone..

I can see finding a non-club field to fly will be harder once I get a hurri...soccer fields are nice but with spring almost here, those will taken up most of the time...guess I'll have to bite that expensive bullet and join a club... closest one to me is gonna cost me $50.00 per year (no problem with that) plus a $60.00 initiation fee (ouch)plus another $25.00 per year because I live just outside the county that the field is located in and it's a county sponsored field... add that to my yearly AMA fees... sigh

I know...it gets expensive, but half the fun is spending a few hours with some other modlers...

Right now I fly alone and go through 4 sets of packs in about 1/2 hour....or less...just isn't the same as watching and "hangar flying" with some budds..
