ok so i've searched the freak and futaba's website and can't find an exact answer anywhere. what i'd like to know is, what are the ranges for the radios listed in the title? i know you're supposed to range check and all that (i do), but i'd be interested to hear what futaba claims the range to be for these tx's and what can actually be expected from them. thanks in advance.

It will control the model at a greater distance than someone can probably see it to make the proper inputs to control it.
The range listed on 72 mhz was 1500 meters, That is over a mile, not many can see a model at that distance well enough to control it.

As for 2.4 ghz. There is many things that can affect the strenght of 2.4 ghz . Here is some of the precautions that Futaba lists.
USAGE PRECAUTIONS
1. Special attention must be paid before turning on the transmitter while other models are running or flying because the
2.4GHz system may affect them.
2. If there is a special regulation for using 2.4GHz radio systems at your flying site, please obey all regulations to enjoy safe
flying with your 2.4GHz system.
3. 2.4GHz is very different than the frequencies we currently use. Please keep the model in sight at all times as large
objects can block the RF signal. Please keep in mind that objects such as wire fences and wire mesh will also cause loss of
signal.
4. NEVER grip the transmitter antenna when flying as this degrades RF quality and cause loss of control.

thanks for the info! seems like they won't give the public a spec on the 2.4g range?? idk if that's a good thing or a bad thing. either way i think i'm set. reason i was asking is i just finished an edf jet, and had no idea how concerned i should be about losing signal, or whether i need worry at all. i did see the info you posted about the fasst radio, but i didn't see 1500m for 72mhz. may i ask where you found that?

The 1500 meter for the 72 mhz radios use to be found in the Specs in the manuals.

Check out Page 4 of the 7UHFS manual. Recieving range 1000 meters. That is for a 129 DP receiver. The receivers got better after the 129 DP. Also the 7U's module had less power than the module for the 9Z.

But all of this is affected by the surroundings. IF you can believe what XPS claims. They say there 2.4 system has a 5 mile range. I personally would like to see there system control a model that was located 5 miles away from the transmitter.
