Okay, so I have an Esky Belt CP and I just installed the upgrade HH gyro. I was nervous about the wire color codes because they were different colors, but I found a link that talked about the orange wires being likened to the white. Anyway, it seems to work, but I was wondering about the orientation of the gyro for best performance. The literature that came with the gyro said to put it in the same spot as the original, but this made it WAY to twitchy and sensitive. I read elsewhere that it needed to be on its SIDE (in the same place as the original) rather than flat, so I tried that and it seemed to work better. I then saw a youtube video with a guy having his low on the frame in the same sideways oriention with the bottom of the letters on the label facing towards the tail. It seems to work okay this way as well, but I was wondering if anyone had any words of wisdom for me with regard to better placement. I don't mind it where it is, but I DON'T like that the only thing holding it on the frame is double-sided tape and I can't get a zip tie to wrap tightly around it where it is. Does ANYONE have any experience with these things and have the willingness to impart there wisdom to a NEWBIE?? Please help if you can Helifreakers..... All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It has to be mounted on its side. Looking at the heli from the rear, mine is on the left side, the servo port for the tail servo towards the front of the helicopter. You cannot mount it flat on top like the 702. I am new here but if this doesnt' help I will try to post a pic of mine. Jim

Here's a picture of how it needs to be orientated.

The instructions that came with it show it mounted flat, which is not correct and the heli will just piro when trying to lift off.

It also has to orientated so that the pot is on the left, if it is rotated 180 degrees from the picture it will also piro when trying to lift off.

And here is a pic the way mine is mounted

both are correct. The esky hh gyro need to be mounted vertically.

so it makes no difference, so long as it's not mounted like you would a 401? i don't see how, though. doesn't which way you face the label (left or right) dictate what direction the gyro will correct drift in? because there is no reversing switch on this, i had heard that if you need to reverse your gryo, flip it around 180 degrees ie: if label is facing right and it needs to be reversed, flip it so the label faces left. is this true? i've finally smoked my gy240 so before i buy another 401 i'm going to give this one another go.

one more thing. i know you can adjust gain via your tx with this gyro, but there is also a gain pot on the gyro itself. will tx adjustments override the pot adjustment or vice versa?

Look at the way mine is mounted. You see the wires coming out the back? Thats the correct way if it's mounted on the left side. As concerns the TX adjustments, honestly, I just fooled around with mine til I got it to hold. Maybe someone else can give some better tips there. Also, one thing I did find, it holds pretty good in rate, but not too hot in heading hold, but like I said, just my opinion and right now I fly pretty much in rate mode. Good luck. Jim

It holds pretty good in HH mode if there is any wind.

I was flying and flipped back to rate mode, a gust of wind flipped the tail about 90 degrees very quickly and I lost orientation and almost crashed.

That doesn't happen in HH mode.

Maybe you are flying in calm weather?

Not quite, but you're on the right track. simply rotating 180 degrees will not reverse the gyro any more than turning the 401 around so the front faces back.

turning the gyro upside down will. if you have it on the left side, then instead of rotating it to the right side with the label facing the other way, turn it up side down on the left side so the label is upside down.

kinda hard to explain without pictures....but imagine a line running vertically up through the center of the gyro. rotate it 180 degrees and that axis line has not changed (top and bottom still the same). turn the gyro over and the axis line is also turned over (reversed).

same thing for the 401 or any other gyro. that's why you have to reverse the switch in a 401 when you move it from on top of the boom to the bottom.

and the gain pot on the gyro is used to adjust the gain in those transmiters without enough channels to plug in the gain plug. if you have both gyro plugs in use, adjust from the transmitter and ignore the gain setting on the gyro itself.
