Hey guys-

The T-Rex 500 Model is available! Collective Designs has been hard at work on this model since we first posted the "teaser" shots.

Anyways, enough talking, go get the model! Click HERE (http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=5071) to get to the base model. Make sure to get the colorschemes too! :)

Edited: Thanks mods!

Thanks to our fellow Helifreaks who helped make this possible.
Finless, Fireup and Jason Chow's feedback was most helpful in getting the right feel for the bird.
We appreciate your collaboration.

What a zippy little joy! Thanx so much! My new training tool and so much fun to fly! BUT, tail is a bit too sensitive. How can I adjust that?

Sorry to dig up an old thread:

Is this model better than the one in Expansion Pack 5?

Hard to say,
What do you consider better? :)

I'm wondering the same thing. Which one is closer to the real thing?

We created it to look and feel as closely as possible to our own Trex500s.
We had great input and feedback from some of our fellow helifreaks to achieve that.

Having said that, and as stated in your other thread:
My real-life heli will fly somewhat different from your heli due to the fact that we may be using different power systems, pinions, throttle/pitch curves, expo or dual rate.
Way too many variables to consider.

What we give to you is a good solid baseline that you can use to adjust the Simulator model to fly exactly like your own. Don't be afraid to modify and tweak what you get.

Now, as far as the Expansion Pack:
That is an "officially blessed" model by JK according to Kyna. (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=68698 See Post#6)
But: you get to pay about $29 and need G4 for that kind of endorsement.

That's my opinion of course, I do not speak for my CDT teammates.

Another CDT teammate here ... :)

Two of the most important things to "get right" for a good simulator model are the pitch curves and power system. Both of these are easily adjustable in the simulator to make the helicopter feel more like your real-life bird.

With that said, the "CDT Trex500" is set up with a 6S battery and 13-tooth pinion. Of course, if you run a 5S setup in real life, the Trex500 in the simulator will feel more powerful and nimble.

As far as editing the models ... just go up to the Aircraft menu, and then hit Edit Aircraft. Make sure "Advanced Properties" are also turned on (also in one of the menus above). From there, just play around with the values in each category to tune it to your liking.

Hope this helped!

I've been editing the CDT to emulate a 6S A123 model. I keep getting a tail "wiggle" while cruising around... how do I stop this while maintaining the 2300 rpm head speed (I do not want to lower the head speed, or change the blade size from 425mm)?

Hard to say with just that description. I'd lower the gyro gain as a starting point, and see if that fixes it.

Gyro gain is located under the "Electronics" category, and then "Heading Hold Gyro". Lower the value for the "Heading Hold Gain".

:)
Well, you don't unzip it.
Save it in its original form as a .g3x file to a location you can find later.
Use the "import" function from the Simulation menu to import it into the simulator.

Quick note, you want to import the _EA file first, this is the (Entire Aircraft), later you can import any Variants (_AV) or Colorschemes (_CS).

Good Luck,
Frank...

As of yet, blades are pretty much the only thing you can't change the color of in RealFlight. You are limited to the graphical blade designs that come with the program by default.

However, there is a black blade with yellow tips (I think it's the MD500 scale blades), and the Align white CF blades.

Any way to make it sound more like the real thing?

It's all about compromises with the available sound library.
Realflight does not allow custom sound files.
You can easily choose the sound more appealing to you via the aircraft editor, go ahead and choose the one that sounds best to your ear, but you are limited in the number of choices.

Good Luck...

Thanks man, I didn't know there were any options for sound other than on and off.
