View Full Version : Can I speed up directional movement? Blade CX2

I have just purchased a new Blade CX2, and I am wondering if i can accentuate its directional movement.

I got it yesterday (btw it is my first heli) and flew it outside today.

I really had a fun time flying it, but I would like it if it would go faster Forward and Backward (and strafe)

is there a modification that i could do?

possibly have longer servo pushrods?

any advice would be helpful :hammer

note: It makes sense that it would move slowly, so beginners wouldn't freak out and crash due to pilot induced occilation and the like, so i am content if there isn't anything i can do.

Some people have moved the links further out on the servo horn, but there's an increased risk of blade strikes, which is where the top blades strike the bottom blades and usually destroy both. The best way I've found to get more foreward/backward speed is to tilt the rotor and then apply throttle. Remember that the CX2 is meant to be a beginner's heli. if you get to the point where it's not enough, it's time to move up to a FP or CCPM heli.

i think i had a blade strike today, ( i pulled back really fast and i heard a whack, and i chipped my bottom rotors on i guess the top ones?)

this is only my second day flying a heli (never done sims or anything, just a picoo) so i don't really think i am ready for a new one, seems like a waste of $200 if thats the case.

i dont know what all these abbreviations mean- FP or CCPM heli.

That sounds like a blade strike alright.

You sound like you're doing really well. The CX2 is designed with stability in mind, so it will tend to right itself
when you release the controls. The consequence is that it won't maintain lateral movement for very long before returning to a hover, as you've discovered.

i dont know what all these abbreviations mean- FP or CCPM heli.

FP = Fixed Pitch. They use flat bottomed blades and you adjust altitude by throttle alone. A CX2 is a special case of a fixed pitch heli; the type I was referring to has the traditional single main rotor and tail rotor.

CCPM = Collective/Cyclic Pitch Mixing. They can use either flat bottomed blades or blades with symmetric airfoils and you control altitude mostly by varying the pitch (tilt) of the blades. They can change altitude much more quickly than a fixed pitch heli, which is actually advantageous when trying to hover because you'll get faster response when applying corrections.
