Can you use a Carbsmart carb control unit with a futaba GV-1 Governor? If so, any advice on how to connect the devices and set them up?

If not, what "sensor" do I need to use the carb control feature of the GV-1 Governor?

The mixture control on the GV 1.
You hook a servo and linkage to the main needle on the carb. Then you plug that servo into the MIXTURE slot on the GV1. Then activate the Mixture control menu in the GV1. It will then richen or lean the mixture during flight. There is a few adjustments you have to make in the program to get it operating the mixture the way you prefer.

David, thanks for the reply! Just one follow-up though...if the Carbsmart unit "measures" temperature and adjusts rich to lean (or vice versa) based on the temperature input from a sensor, then I am just unlcear how the GV-1 unit does something similar with no sensor at all? How does the GV-1 know when it adjusts the engine a little leaner that either the temp was dropping or that the air mixture had changed. My understanding is that the GV-1's only input is the RPM from the sensor placed under the fan.

Once again, thanks for responding earlier. Any help or knowledge is greatly appreciated!

It's apparently not an active mixture control per-se (I just read through the manual, it's somewhat obtuse like usual for Futaba). I'd be interested in understanding this better too, we're thinking of putting on of these on a friends 600N...

I definitely agree with you on the manual! Once I figure this out, I may write a "plain english" version that includes a basic explanation of how the thing actually does what it does.

cool. My thinking at this point is that the carbsmart is going to be a better option for mixture control just based on the fact that it is an active feedback control loop system.

No.. Carbsmart don't need any input signal ... it's just need the power from any receiver slot....
It works based on the cyclinder head temp ! It will not take the signal from GV1's mixture control !
