Going to get a 550. I'm a newbie. I want to train/hover and eventually sport fly (easy flips and rolls), no hardcore 3D, just easy flying with long flight times. What setup should I go for?

A) XES PRO SE Kit with the CNC head, CF blades, and short tail (no electronics). Is this overkill, or will it provide more crash damage resistance?

OR

B) EP 550 Kit (no electronics). Plastic head only, wooden blades, normal tail. Is it true this is limited to 2000 rpm?

The only negative I see going right the Bling...is the expense during the learning curve. If you crash a CF it will cost a lot more than the $25 it costs for a plastic frame...

The plastic frame and head fly just fine even with woodies.....it's much easier to replace $15 wooden blades than a set of $65 CF ones...

I don't know what your level is but what you are describing is a little overkill to learn on...go the cheapest you can to learn....you can always sell it later and upgrade....or upgrade as you go along....

2000 seems to be the sugested HS before going to metal grips....but you can buy a nice upgrade kit for about $75 that has the metal grips...paddles...tail grips.

It's really just up to how much you can afford to spend and loose in a crash. The 550 is pretty forgiving and I have seen some crashes that woul tottaly destroy another heli...and the 550 comes out in pretty good shape.

if your rich...go for th whole works....if not the basic kit flies very nice.

Hi!
I'm using a plastic frame (5s with 1500kW; 1,1kV Gaui) with only a few cnc parts (nick, roll, pitch) and swashplate guide. I'm using SAB 530mm blades which are a real benefit against wooden blades. Wouldn't use them once more. Difference is really extreme... wooden blades tend to bend and you have to work much more to hold direction or in place. Performance is much better...

i can only say this having seen the xes head, i've never seen the quality of gaui's plastic rotorhead but the xes head has simply stunning machine work. it really is a beautiful piece of aluminum.

I will agree..the machine work is beautiful along with being very functional...

I have a complete Gaui metal head I will install on a Gaui CF kit....with FG canopy...but right now I'm just flying the heck out of the plastic frame version with metal grips and caged flybar...along with full cnc roll, nick, and pitch arms. I'm using the Z20 motor, but as i get better I can see where the Z30 would be much better.

Maybe the new Scorpion motors will prove to have more power at less amps...
