I am in a kinda of unsecure. What do i need to upgrade from belt to Torque Tube?

and do i ever need to change it?:)

About $110.

What makes you think a TT will be more secure? Sure, it's unlikely to break in the air like a belt, but it's also more prone to gears stripping if your landings aren't perfect; it doesn't take much of a tail tap on the ground to strip the front TT gears.

Also, if you're crash prone, a belt will last you longer. If you have a crash where your boom gets bent, you might as well write off the TT also. A belt would typically survive such a crash.

its a pain in the ass to change the belt. So i decide to give TT a try. But what parts i need? anyone make a list if they got time?:)

Thanks!

Changing out front TT gears (the ones that normally strip) is no picnic.

Absolutely NO way - you'll be changing the front bevel gears every time your tail rotor brushes the dirt - and it's a bigger PIA to change them than it is the belt :) You'll also be forking out $20 each time you bend the boom for the TT. Only advantage IMHO is you don't have to worry about belt tension but anyway go for it and have fun !!

(I've just regressed and fitted my blinged out 600N with a belt)

Somehow, I knew you'd be chiming in, John. :P

LOL - it's a bit like motor bikes - start from the 100cc - work up to the latest and greatest all blinged out 1100cc monster then work back to reality - what works OK and is least fuss and best bang for $$$ ;) - Seriously though if great helis like the Mikado Logo 5/600 can run so well on belts makes me wonder about why we bother !

uhm... no, cant agree with you there. i've been doing sliding auto's on grass lately and the tips of the tail get a bit of dirt on em from time. i've only had to replace the front TT gears when i've crammed the tail into the ground doing low tic-tocs. Everyone on here makes it sound like the slightest touch with the ground is going to destroy the TT gears, which isn't so. yea they are weak but not insanely delicate to where if the blades dig in 1/16-1/4" they are going to explode and dissappear into a billion pieces.

I suppose part of it has to do with how loose you run your tail blades. I would think you'd want to run them fairly loose to minimize damage. Centripetal force will keep them straight while spinning.

It seems to me that its the same job to change out either the tt or belt, your going to have split the case either way. Personally, I would rather shove the tt through the boom then the belt. But to each his own, I think its great that Align gives us so much to choose from and debate.

I agree with that. i keep my tail blades just tight enough to where they dont fall under their own weight (just like my main blades)
