I need to get a boom, but i am not sure on what kind to get.
I am not sure on what to look for
I dont want to end up paying $15 thinking that i am getting a deal, and find out i just bought a piece of crap.

I just picked up a CF boom and "unbreakable" skids from Boomtown Hobbies. Google for them and you'll find it. I got mine off Ebay as he had a Boom/skids combo package for sale.
So far I've liked it very much. Seems to be great quality. Haven't crashed YET with the new gear so we'll see how it stands up.
ETA: Here is the link to Boomtown's Ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190203785793
Smoking fast shipping too. Only catch with the skids is that now it looks like my skids won't break, but the joiner bars on battery tray are going to be the weak link. We'll see...

yeah i would much rather have the skids break than something harder to repair ;)
so besides the boom being carbon fiber, are there any other important details? I talked to the guy at my lhs, and he will be getting some in with supports and stuff... are brand names important? if so, any recommendations?

Ok, have to say that the battery tray replacement was not bad. I replaced mine today before going out for my daily fly. Also, I think my skid mounts (joiner bars on the battery tray) were already broken when I bought the heli as I bought it used off Ebay.
Having said all that, I took a couple good hard hits today due to some wind and me getting over zealous with the throttle. The new joiner bars did great and showed no sign of wear or breakage. Of course the unbreakable skids and new boom did great too.
While I'm all about supporting your LHS, I just liked the look of the boom I got. A minimal, stable good looking CF boom. However, it's your heli and you need to get what looks good to you. And maybe you're lucky and have a good LHS to work with!
Oh and I don't have any experience with other booms or brand names as the CX2 is my very first heli and the boom and skids were my first mods.

well i'll just get what boom my lhs has this thursday. the only upgrade i have is just an aluminum lower rotor head, and i only got my heli saturday... so i guess i'm a little ahead of the game.
i heard the aluminum swash plate doesn't really help... so i guess the only upgrade i need is the boom. oh, and a shorter flybar ( i hear you can move farther before it tries to stabalize)

Really the CX2 tail boom from Boomtown Hobbies are great. The unbreakable skids Flex and you will never have to buy a new set. Also They will not break the battery tray like the ridgid skids will. I have a set on mine and the only time that I have ever had to replace the Battery tray was when I hit a building support beam at full tilt boogie, and the tray was the easiest thing to replace. But Jamie at boomtown is great. I buy most of the stuff that I get from him, he really takes care of his customers.

I've been flying my CX for months with their skids and boom and could not be happier.
www.boomtownhobbies.com is the link to them.
Jamie ships fast.
Here's a piccie of my CX with the goodies.

Thanks BigAl07! Boomtown sells them in several colors. Black, red, yellow and blue. Their unbreakable skids are the single most valuable/useful upgrade you can do to the CX(2) I would have ordered the boomkit with blue fins also but they were out of blue when I placed my order.
@LockMD: Yes, I know it's upside down. I like it that way as I am a stubborn and contrarian so-n-so!

i researched and it is actually better to have the fin inverted like that--- incase of bad back landing it wont break!!!

Tried my new boom from Boomtown and I too have the tail the 'wrong' way. I like it that way too. Doesn't seem to be anywhere near the plane of the rotor so I don't have to worry about a boom strike. And it may survive a hard landing and not break off where it is joined to the body. I do other things weird too!:Bang

I have the ESP boom kit on my CX2. It was alittle more expensive but I like it. I used a tail boom for a CP and cut it down to where it looks right. The ESP carbon boom looked alittle too short with the canopy I'm using. (CP) Here it is:
