It can cause electrical glitches manifested as lock-outs (temporary loss of control) of your heli, usually resulting in crashes. It can also cause other parts of the heli to misbehave, like twitching of servos.

why does static not affect the t-rex 450 and 600

It CAN affect those models. I had problems with my 450SE when I changed the frame to the STK frame. A lot of static build-up from the belt causing my servos to twitch in flight. I grounded the ESC and problem was solved.
