I just ordered a ready to fly Hurricain 550 CP, Which by the way what's the difference between a CP and a EP? It's comeing from Hong Kong Via UPS Ground and I would like to see that truck drive across the ocean! My starter was an E-Flight and that got boring in about a month. Any really important things I should know before I crash it the day I get it?

Never heard it desiganted as the CP but generally that just means "Collective Pitch"
Not even sure what the EP stands for...maybe someone will chime in...
Which hobby shop did you get it from and post a link to the deal if you have it....
Generally, 2200 25c or bigger are what is used...some motors really suck up the amps from smaller lipos...I puffed two sets of 18c 2200 lipos using the Gaui motor.
CNC elevator arm is the first upgrade most go for...
Search thru the threads and get most of your questions answered...some good info in there.
Good luck with it....take it easy,,,and don't crash....take it slow.

It's from Rc-experts in Hong Kong http://www.rc-expert.com/product-package.php?pid=662 Seems like a deal. If I bought it part buy part it would cost much more. What do I know, this is my first REAL heli.
8 weeks to go,

Man you have bought the Carbon Fibre frame with the CNC head. As stated you will need the cnc elevator arms and I'd get some wood blades (500mm) and put the carbon blades away for awhile.
I bought my Hurricane from these guys and they are good to deal with. I got the same batteries with mine, they are still going strong after 30 flights but have no idea how long they will last.
Take it slow, use the sim - lots and most of all ENJOY

looks like i was too late
i just posted a reply in the other thread you started
i think you will need to make some upgrades to that package pretty soon.
first thing would be to get some better battery packs
Tx will be just fine if thats what you already bought i am sure we can help you set it up.
and you will probbaly want to get a better charger pretty soon as well
hope you enjoy a great heli
we all sure do!

those batteries look a bit on the weak side (18c) for the 1100kv gaui motor. might want to upgrade that as well.

Why is every kinda complaining out about a "Lipo"? I don't even know what that is but it must be important. Plus what wrong with the batteries I'm getting with it? Xtreme Power 11.1V 2200mAh 18C Li-polymer Battery sounds good to me. I don't knwo this is my first endever into this. I enjoyed the E-filght for awhile and want to move up.

LiPo is short for Li-Polymer... what is wrong with those batteries is, they have a 18c discharge rate, the 1100kv Gaui motor is going to be real hard on them. 25c or higher would be better. if you've never used a LiPo battery before, then you need to do some serious reading about them. .

Those Lipo batteries will be ok for hovering but you will need some better (higher discharge ie 22c or 25c) batteries for more flight time and more advanced flying. Your flight times are going to be short and more batteries equals more flight time.

I puffed two 18c batteries just hovering in my front yard and I had the 850 kv motor not he 1100..... I do not know why in heck these HS even bother giving 18c lipos with 550 kits....they are trying to keep the image that the heli was designed for the trex 400 batteries....well it's not with the 1100 motor.
Let us knowhowyou make out.....I'll bet you your motor will be Hot as a pistol and so will your lipos just hovering for 5 -6 minutes.

I bought a kit from them with those lipos, mine were dead after one flight on my Trex 450, they will NEVER work with the 1100 kv motor, you just looking for trouble with those, the safest thing is pop them in a bucket of salt water and buy some KPs or something.

i puff my 18c cells everytime i use them in the 550 (these packs were bought for my 450). i'd go no less then 25c.

Ok so my batteries suck, I can handle that. Where is a reasonable place to get good batteries? (I'm not rich) and isn't everything Lithium nowadays? I got 7 weeks left till I get the heli anyway so I could order better batteries and they'd be here before it. Also quick question, I'm get a 6 channel controler. Will I have at least 1 free channel?

hobbycity.com look at the zippy 3300mah lipos..
as far as having a free channel.. no, all 6 will be used by the heli. what would be a gear channel is used by the gyro gain.

Thanx I'll check it out. Some of The post on here are making me nervious but I downloaded several videos from: http://www.runryder.net/helicopter/rrTV-Photo/funflies/IRCHA2005/
Which I think everyone here should check these out, anyway one of them on Sunday is a 5 year old kid flying the heck out a hurricain 550. He made it look so easy I thought heck I can do that!
Why don't I go all out and get a few of these

that would have to be Justin Chi.. only 5 year old I know of that can make a heli sing and dance. he's an incredible pilot and one of the best out there...don't let his flying skills fool you into thinking that all you need is a heli and you can toss it around like he does, that takes a LOT of practice and lots of crashes.

of course you can go buy those... they most likely won't fit under the canopy, but you can buy all of them that you want. of course instead of those, get a few of the 3300mah 3s1p packs, that will be more than you need for the Hurri..not to mention they'll fit under the canopy :D

good to know :D might have to look at some bigger batteries.. but that 15c rating would probably be the down fall of that battery.
would this fit?? http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6353

This place is great and I do know that I'm not gonna fly like Justin right out of the box (you gotta admit that five year old kid knows his stuff) but it's what I'm shooting for. The main thing I'm bummed about is not having a spare channel. It would cost to much to get a whole new controler and reciever at this point. I am willing to spend money on 3300mah 3s1p packs and if some knows of a kick ass charger let me know.

Why do you want a spare channel - I fly my 550 on a 6 channel receiver (Futaba R146iP), I have to have the ESC and BEC connected via a "V" connector on the throttle channel to get it to work.

Eventually I'd like to try night flying and it would be nice to turn the lights on and off from the controler. I'm just think way ahead, it'll be awhile before I do more than hover. If I ever get the darn thing. 7 weeks to go.
