Had one of the cheapie mild steel shafts hanging round (legacy of my hybrid 500 3D/DX box) so after the last prang decided to stick it in - no probs and seemed to work OK - well dumb thumbed the recovery from a knife edge yesterday and the L500 hit the deck head first - surprisingly little damage (flybar - flybar link - mixer lever bolt - boom - skid - bent main shaft) great I thought back in the air tomorrow - so fixed up the rotor head in-situ then decided to change the shaft :( - the bugger would not shift up or down -= had to resort to the BFH - blowtorch and Dremel to get the shaft out of the washout block - swash and bearings - what had happened was that the Jesus bolt holds had elongated and burred the holes and the one-way had left teeth marks in the shaft all of which stopped the shaft components coming off - lucky not to wreck the swash but had to sacrifice two bearings - never had this problem with the hardened shaft which always broke rather than bent or burred.
