I am a newbie to electric helis ( but old in years). I'm learning with a Blade CX2 but I just got a Very used Blade CP disassembled. Putting it back together and tested the main motor. It runs and the servos move but the tail motor doesn't run. I put a multi meter on it and that seems to short the system out and the main motor starts. How do I test the tail motor to see if I need to replace it? Also the tail motor gear doesn't make very good contact with the larger tail gear???
NEED HELP

I just found the problem. The shaft inside the tail motor is loose! Could it be that the tail motors on the Blade CP are a weak link???

Yes, they don't often last very long. A heat sink helps in prolonging the life slightly, and some have converted to a dual tail motor setup which takes the load off each motor, increasing the life.

Probably the best option is to convert it to a direct-drive tail with an altogether different motor. Many have had great results doing this.

unfortunately the blade cpp is one of the most frustrating helis out there, and defiantly not the heli for a first single head heli pilot. if you do learn to fly with it you will be able to fly anything, but it's a very steep learning curve. get extra booms, tail motors, main frames, blades, and i believe it's called super gear. move the links on the servos to the 3rd hole in from the end, and get, or make a set of training gear, and please don't give up. the box calls it a intermediate heli. not a beginners heli. it's going to be a bumpy ride.

my friend has put almost $200 into repairs on this heli.

I am brand new to RC's all together. My local hobby shop sold me a CPP and said it was the best to learn on (after reading and talking to other this may not have been wise). I think I am finally learning to hover a little bit, but have crash a few times (well a lot):arggg: and have bought 2 new tail motors. Now I have to buy yet another one! I have tried to find out how to convert to the Direct Drive Tail but can not find it any where..Can anyone help?

Wow! Thanks Skarn I think I will learn a lot from this site! Tell me, what are the advantages to Direct Drive? Is it worth it?

Yes, it's about the best upgrade you can do for your Blade CP. I did the dual tail motor first, and it was much better than stock, but when I did the direct drive, it held so much better. Plus it was so inexpensive! Another upgrade that is VERY much worth it are Super Skids. Do a search on ebay....they rock!

Good luck!
