Hey all, well I think I just discovered the most frustrating part of an otherwise fun build.........installing the damn canopy grommets!:arggg:

I've been trying to get these in but with the really thin and flimsy canopy it is not being kind to me. I've already put a small 2mm rip in one of the holes and i'm worried about applying anymore force and having a larger split. So has anyone got any hot tips to get these in?

Well, measure the outside diameter of the grommet groove and make sure the hole in the canopy is big enough (maybe a hair bigger...and that means BARELY over sized), then a small screwdriver and some patient work is all I can offer as help :(.

Use the grey TREX600 grommets - far kinder on the canopy and fingers and work great

Make the holes a tad larger using a reamer that is used for rc car bodies etc...

I used an exacto knife to slightly enlarge the hole. No issues.

i struggle, yell, shout, break the canopy, but get them in somehow with no modification!

i should try enlarging it :D

Try putting the grommets in a cup of boiled water, prior to inserting in the canopy.

Thanks guys. I gave it another go before reading the reponses and going really slow I was eventually able to work them in with no modifications. I must have been in a better state of mind when I tried this time. Still a pain but I was determined to mount my canopy last night. One thing that surprised me was how tight the canopy sits on the mounts when inserted into the grommets. Definately going to take a little more effort than the Trex to get the canopy on and off. Have you found that they loosen up over time or are they just tight everytime?

Big Fil -You should maybe reinforce the holes with some epoxy or something similar so that taking the canopy on and off does not mess them up as it did mine. Especially since you already have the 2mm crack.

I ripped both of my holes slightly out of impatience! The canopy has now been relegated for possible nightflying in the future or as a practice canopy. It already has a 10mm tear on the side from shipping. Will fix the tears with thin fibreglass.

I tried the white T-Rex 600 grommets, the canopy holes were too big for them and the fit too loose.

Yeah, the Logo grommets are a tight fit on the mounts. I don't remove the canopy by grabbing the ends like with the T-Rex, instead I grab both sides next to the grommets and pull off. It may be tight but at least it's unlikely to come off in flight!

Btw, yup the T-Rex canopy is a breeze to use!

The grey ones work perfectly - also have to make sure you put force on the grommet not the canopy when putting on and taking off - got about 30 flights on the new 6003D canopy with NO tears aned No reinforcement

TTs for the R50 works also.
