View Full Version : Painting Clear Canopy

I don't know if i should try to paint it or use the supplied decals which are white.any suggestions on painting a clear canopy and not screw it up.i don't think i have the skills to pull it off.I don't think white decals on the canopy will look right.
here's a few pic's,long way from done....one pic is of a heli with supplied white decals.
The flash maks the burgundy look kinda pink.lol

I would paint it like lexan car bodies are painted, from the inside. You need to mask it off on the inside and make sure your edeges are well adhered so your don't get any paint seeping underneath. After masking it off and leaving the area to be painted revealed mask off the entire outside to keep from getting any overspray on it.
After it's dry carefully pull your tape. Painting it from the inside you can take advantage of the clear plastics shiny coat and not have to clear coat it.

Thanks for the suggestions.I decided to give the supplied decals a try.It cam out pretty good.I can always peel them off if i want to paint it..

That looks to have turned out rather well. Nice looking. Perhaps you could clear coat it to help keep your decals from peeling.

Another masking product that work exceptionally well is 3M fine line tape the edges adhere with no seeping and it comes in a variety of widths. If you dont want a sharp edge to your paint you can pull the tape from the line before the paint cures fully and the paint edge will roll to soften the line. the product can be found in your local auto store or paint shop another product from your local hobby store is a latex based material that you can brush on to protect large areas from overspray
