I am trying to figure out what receviers to order with a x9303 2.4GHz to take advantage of Horizon's free receiver offer. I am learning heli's and have flown airplanes for a few years. I doubt I will ever need more than 6 channels for the planks, unless I get real fancy in the future, which I doubt.

But for heli's, even my TRex450 uses 6 channels. I see 9 and 12 channel radios, but don't know what more than 6 would be used for. Can someone please explain what channels 7 and up would do?

Maybe that will help me make a smarter choice on what to order.

Tnx

For an electric, extra channels would be useful for add-ons, such as special lighting or moving the lens on a FlyCamOne2.

Additional channels have a more practical purpose for nitro helis. The 7th channel is often used to change governor settings in flight.

I wouldn't consider less than a 7 channel TX (I have a DX7) and wouldn't mind having the extra two channels afforded by the 9303, for example, for future use.

Aside from the extra channels the screens are larger and more detailed, pitch curves appear as graphs, there is more mixes and they are more detailed and granular.

Buy the best radio you think you will ever need because its cheaper to buy it up front than to buy another and sell one you just bought at a loss.

I can see channel 7 for the Gov. Maybe two more for lights and landing gear. But the latest from Futaba has 14! I don't even have that many fingers!

Instead of more channels I would find a USB plug on the Tx more useful. Something where I can store setups tp my PC. Or even, heaven forbid, use the PC to set up the Tx using plain english dialogs and graphics. Instead of feeling like I'm setting up a 1970's era VCR! ( no my Tx does not have a blinking 12:00! )

To Tx manufacturer don't give us more... give us something useful... and yes I'll pay more for it....

Thanks for reading this curmudgeonly rant......

Well I'll be d****d! I was always led to believe that one cannot use a separate governor on an electric other than programming an ESC to that mode. They were only used in nitros. I read through the manual online. Any tips on how to set up the configuration on page 5? I believe this must be the one you are using? I'm thinking my ESC should be changed to maybe a CC85 with a nice soft-start since aircraft mode on my Align is recommended and soft-start should not be used with their ESC.???
