Thanks to Heli Jim for pointing me in the right direction on this project .

48" x 1/4" Poplar Dowel - 4 x 1Ft segments, used a utility knife to cut it, hold the blade to the dowel and roll the dowel on a flat surface until the knife cuts through it, clean and splinter free

12 pack Z tech Practice Golf balls from Golfsmith

clip ties on either side of the ball - maybe use CA to keep them there - you want the balls to roll freely though

block of wood 2"L x 1"W - experiment with this, should have gone with 3"L x 2"W

This trainer gear is really helping me dial in my settings, I've been hovering indoors ever since, thanks again Heli Jim.

EDIT: Make sure to fasten the Trainer Gear to the skids better than seen in the photo:roll:

You're welcome for the hint.....kinda a fair trade for your leveling tool idea

Do you really need the block of wood? Maybe get rid of some weight and just tie strap diagonally at center?

I did it your way...a couple of zip ties in the center and all set!

The block of wood allows the bird to still be leveled properly, I push down on the block and then plug in the battery in order to initialize the gyro with the gear on the skids.

Call me cheap but I got 2 sticks from walmart (1/4" dowel about 36" long) and a bag of whiffle balls. The balls slide onto the sticks with enough friction they ain't coming off. I used a tie wrap to hold the 2 sticks together in an "X" shape and then simply tiewrapped that t the skids.

I think this trainer cost me a whopping $4 and has saved me hundreds!

I just bought a $10 kit off ebay for 450 sized helis. Came with 4 x 12 inch carbon fibre rods and 4 x solid foam balls (not polystyrene, a good rubber type foam). Also had double quantity of press fit rings to go either side of the balls to hold them in place, and 2 x cross brace centre section. For $10, I wasnt gunna complain.
