Hello guys... is it possible to use any kind of servos for a raptor 30 v2????

I saw a JR Z590
Type:High-Speed Analog Race Servo
Torque:70 oz/in @ 4.8V, 85 oz/in @ 6V
Speed:.18 sec/60° @ 4.8V, .15 sec/60° @ 6V
Dimensions (WxLxH):0.73" x 1.55" x 1.46"
Weight:1.6 oz
Motor Type:3-pole ferrite
Gears:Metal

but it says RACING servo.... what is the difference???? can not I use it for aileron, throttle, pitch and elevator????? I have seen many JR servos with good torque and speed but I think most of them are communly used in cars... what happens if I use them in a heli??? for example this Z590.... thanks!

As a non-expert, relying on the fact that the fastest way to get correct information, is usually to dispense inaccurate information and allow the elders to point out the faults, here is my take.

A servo only has to meet the following:

Will it fit (in the tray, as well as control arms)
Will it work on the voltage provided
Will it work with the control signal provided (I think all servos work with all receivers, but not all servos work with all gyros, still a gray area for me)
Does the servo provide enough torque
Is the servo fast enough
Will the servo survive in the environment? Nitro helis are "Self Lubricating" The oil from the exhaust invades every part of the heli. From what I can tell, it looks like the servo you asked about should work.. I see no reason why not.. If I am mistaken on any of this, I expect I'll stand corrected shortly!

thanks!.... I would like to have more opinions about using this servo, I don't really need to upgrade my servos of my 30 v2 right now, but I think that if I am patient, I can get these servos at a good price on ebay.......

Hello, I got some servos on ebay, I think I got good price.

I'll go from futaba FS148 to HS525MG (46oz torque/.17seg) in cyclic
and I'll go from HS525MG on rudder to HS925MG (85oz/11seg)
I'll put the JR Z590 on collective

what do you think guys??? the 525MG was working great in rudder, I guess the 925MG will work better (faster), I am using a telebee gyro and it was working great for my level, just sport flying, I am not planning to do 3d with raptor 30 v2, over the time, I'll get a raptor 50 for it

What is the torque and speed I should keep on the elevator, aileron and collective??? I don't see anything about it in the manual... can I leave the 3003 in the collective?

Hello, I finally finished shopping the servos to upgrade my old ones:

I'll go from futaba FS148 to HS525MG (46oz torque/.17seg) in cyclic
I'll go from HS525MG on rudder to HS925MG (85oz/.11seg)
I'll go from 3003 to JR Z590 (70oz/.17sec) on collective

what do you think guys??? the 525MG was working great in rudder, I guess the 925MG will work better (faster), I am using a telebee gyro and it was working great for my level, just sport flying, I am not planning to do 3d with raptor 30 v2, over the time, I'll get a raptor 50 for it

are these new servos good enough for the raptor 30 v2??????? I will appreciate opinions about my set up.... thanks...

It depends on what you call good enough. I've tweaked my 30 and do some 3D with it. (flips,rolls,tic-tocs, no chaos on this bird yet!) My setup is...

JR DS821 on Throttle, Aileron and Elevator (88oz torque and .15 sec)
JR DS8717 on Collective (192oz torque and .07 sec)
Futaba 401 gyro w/ 9254 on tail.(47oz and .06 sec)

I might be a little concerned with the 46 oz of torque on cyclic but I've not flown a setup like that so I don't know how it will handle.

I can tell you that 70 oz of torque for collective on a Raptor is going to be on the low side. I started with an 821 on collective and then just tried an 8717 on collective for fun(building a 90 so I had a couple floating around) and wow was there a big difference especially doing flips and tic-tocs. Even not doing a lot of 3D I think you'll notice it, but that just my 2 cents. Give it a try and see. Post your results and Good Luck! :)

wow, you got really good servos!...... well, I am a little student, hehehehe, I can't afford expensive servos, that is what I got on ebay. Also, I am not planning to do any 3d with the 30, I'll be limited to sport flying (not close to do loops, rolls, etc)... I have a t-rex 450 and I do those things with it and if I crash, I have the heli flying again with 30dlls, hehehehe, not the case of the raptor.

hopefully the 525MG will do fine in aileron, elevator, but you are right.. I am concerned about the 70oz of torque in collective, little tight, eh..... I am gonna give it a try like that, if it was flying with a 3003 (46oz), hehehehehe, it should work like that, when I get some money, I'll get a better servo for collective..... I would like to know how much torque do I need for every servo....... is that written in any website???

Thanks for answering :)

Haven't seen any official numbers from any of the heli company's. I've mainly learned from reading about other people's setups and trial and error.(Lot's of errors!):)

Hello, I just came back from a LHS, I went to buy some servo arms and well, they guy assured me I should be using all digital servos in the raptor 30.... I want to believe he was wrong, I just bought the servos I mentioned above.... I have read in forums that digitals are recomended for 50 size and bigger... is it right????? should I be ok with the above servos for sport flying????

I am still concerned especially on the collective pitch servo. The DS821's are $30 ea and can get them on ebay sometimes for $15ea. Put them on and forget about it and fly! :) My 2Cents

Do they meet or exceed the speed and torque requirements mentioned in the build manual? If so, and you trust the manufacturers of your servo no to be stretching the truth, then in theory you should be ok...

However, you will find a few odd rules in life..

Sometimes you have to slow down to go faster
Sometimes you have to spend money to save money..You servos for instance. You may find they suit your fling style just fine, or you manage your flying style to match your equipment. However, if you find that you DON'T LIKE these servos, then you attempt to save money actually worked against you..

Hi, thanks for your answer guys, I finally installed the servos:

I went from futaba 2 FS148 to 2 - HS525MG (46oz torque/.17seg) in elevator and aileron
I went from HS525MG on rudder to HS925MG (85oz/.11seg)
I went from 3003 to JR Z590 (70oz/.17sec) on collective

I had 3 tanks with them, sport flying, they work fine, I was flying fast, climbing, turning fast and tough and they were responding great, my telebee gyro and the HS925 well adjusted hold the tail GREAT, I didn't even have a little drift, NOTHING, it was great, solid tail. I'll keep them for now, I am not planning to do any aerobatics in my raptor 30, just sport flying and I was pretty satisfied with the performance of the servos.

When I feel much better and I save some money (and I improve doing 3d with my t-rex 450), I'll go for a raptor 50 for sure!. I would like to do loops, rolls and going inverted in a nitro heli, if with the t-rex is amazing, I guess a nitro is awesome!

Thanks for answering guys!

P.S. I never found the torque limit for the different servos needed in a raptor 30 v2, if somebody gets them, please post them, thanks!
