I have a Hangar 9 HD 12V starter. It won't turn over my OS 50 hyper before the thing starts filling up with fuel and getting flooded.

I'm running the gel cell battery that is part of a combo from Horizon.

I've done a search on all of the different starter threads but I'm pretty stumped.
Some seem to say the starter is fine, use different batteries.

I have 3 starters right now and none of them seem to be worth anything.
Dynatron? but what to power it with...and is it going to require tinkering/soldering/hacking some power solution to get it to work right?

If you hook up a dynatron to a good 12V battery, and it doesn't engage your clutch because it spinning so fast, then you've got engine problems

Sorry if I did not phrase that correctly. I do not own a dynatron. I was asking if that was the answer.

Dynatron is definately the answer to all starter problems. Get one, and you'll never need to buy another starter.

I use the HydraTork Ultra from heliproz on my 90SE with no problems even in the cold months here in WI.
I like this setup because batteries are housed within and there is no mess or leads to worry about when starting up your machine!!

I used to have issues with starters like you but now I just use a cordless craftsman drill and havent had a problem since!

Hi
I am using a cheap HT starter powered by a 5 cell lipo it will start any engine
it seems to take the high voltage without problems it doesnt get hot even trying to start a troubled .90
if you have a spare 4 or 5 cell lipo give your old starter an ekstra chance

I've found that oil hanging around in the cylinder can give a mild hydraulic lock - turning the engine over at the end of the session with fuel cut off and glow not lit with throttle open seems to clear the extra fluid and make it easier to start next time out !

I am still plenty happy with my Minimax (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLMT4&P=WR) from century.
Running it with a 3S 2100 Align Lipo.

I use 2 cheap 3000 mah nimh 7.2 volt packs wired in series strapped to the bottom of my starter. (hobbico 90) On a full charge @ approx 16 volts it has more then enough umph to start a hyper 50. I also use it on 4 stroke airplane engines up to 140 and it has no problems with that either.

I've decided to order a dynatron with the Makita battery adapter. Yea, it's fairly expensive but over the long haul - if I add up my three starters I have now it comes out to be about the same. If I decide to go up to a 90 size, this will handle that too.

I hated to post on a commonly discussed topic it seems but I am fairly indecisive at times

Thanks for the tip, will give that a try the next time out

I have the same starter and works like a charm, i even think it will start a .90 engine.

If you tilt to heli towards the pipe side and start when it is flooded it will start very easily. I use a very cheap starter for my 600N. I had many problems with the motor flooding until I found out to tip it while starting. No more flooding No more pulling the plug No expensive starter

I know I am bringing this thread back from the grave, but I felt it important enough to mention, I also have the Hanger 9 Power Pro Starter Source battery back with the 1ah lead acid battery in it. Frankly I dont understand why they sell this model, I am using a tower hobbies deluxe starter, which previously started my old 40 trainers without strain, however with this battery on a full charge it will not turn it over, it simplly turns it over to compression and stalls. You can stall the starter with 1 finger on the start cone. However attach the starter to a normal battery, and it has no problems! I wish I had saved my money and went with the dual nicad battery solution.
