I'm new to JR radios. I've been a Futaba users for a long long time. Also new to 2.4. After learning new menus and programing R921 receiver in my Trex 500, I note a quirky issue. It seems that if I make even a minor change to program, I don't get solid lights and I have to bind again. Is this normal? Maybe part of failsafe program? Thanks!

I've been going through the setup on my Trex 500 with my 9303 using an AR7000 receiver and haven't had any binding issues so far.

I was told that everytime you make changes to your radio, you should bind to avoid accidents. Since I don't like to take my changes and after seeing a few pics of accidents, I always bind. The guy at my LHS, however, didn't bind and it was also blinking. Someone there said it was part of the failsafe feature or if you turn the heli off without the radio, it could do the same. My lights were blinking because my battery was low so your problem might be different but I will still bind to avoid possible accidents.

New Rxes will blink if they detect a low voltage event. This could als happen if, when you power up, you don't make one smooth connection. If everything works, but the LEDs are blinking, this is probably the cause.

Setup changes shouldn't effect binding.

If the Rx loses the bind, the Rx will have NO LED, as it won't link.

The Rx blinks when you have the bind plug inserted. You are taking it out after binding aren't you?

One way you can lose the bind, is to turn on the Tx with the bind button held, like you are binding. The reason for this is that the Tx is looking for a signal fro teh Rx saying it is a DSM2 Rx. If it doesn't hear that, it switches to DSM mode. And DSM mode doesn't talk to DSM2 mode. And if the Rx isn't in bind mode (bind plug in Batt slot and powered up) it doesn't send out the signal saying that there is a DSM2 Rx waiting to bind.

I am having the same problem with my 9303 2.4. I have bound it and rebound it when I set everything up. But when I turn the receiver off and then turn it on without turning the transmiter of it flashes, as it it wasen't bound.

To stop it flashing I have to turn the RX off again and then the TX. I then turn the TX on and then the RX and it is solid?????

But if I turn the RX off and then on without cycling the TX it flashes.

It doesn't seem right to me, either.

If the system or Rx is fairly new, you have teh Quick Conenct. If you power off the Rx for less than about 30 seconds, it flashes to tell you it had a power interruption.

It will still work fine.

After binding, remove the bind plug BEFORE powering down anything. As well (I an not 100%) but the AR7000 can connect without the satellite antenna but NOT the R921. I have made many changes and never needed to rebind. I have 2 planes 1 heli. In the manual they say if the radio is to close the the RX it can cause issues.

AR7000 will not link without sat Rx.

AR6200 will.

It doesn't matter if you remove power before or after removing bind plug. Just don't put power back on before removing it.

Terry, there is more to it than meets the eye. See my most recent post in this forum.

Bottom line, if everything is on, and you want to re-bind (like to educate the Rx fail safe positions),

This Fails (/edit ONLY IF rx has Rapid Connect firmware!!)

Starting with everything ON
Turn off the Rx
install the bind plug
Turn on the Rx
Turn OFF the Tx
Pressing Bind Button,Turn ON the Tx
IT will look like its working, but will never arm the servos
Also, when Rx power down and bind plug removed, it won't come back to life either...This Works
Starting with everything ON
Turn off Tx :wow2:
Turn off Rx
Install Bind Plug
Turn on Rx
Press Bind Button, turn on TxBasicly, the new rapid connect system is working as expected, but they didn't consider the ramifications of a Rapid connect event with a bind plug installed. (like when someone power off and back on the Rx in just the few seconds it takes to install the bind plug...)

"Been There, Done That, got the headache to prove it.:"

I was talking about AFTER the bind.

But I will have to try what you are talking about.

Hello Again :)

I went through the steps of binding today again. Once the binding process was complete the Leds on the RX did not flash. All servos worked and responded to the joystick commands. I then turned the RX off, while leaving my TX on. I then counted 40 seconds and turned the RX back on. The Leds on the Rx flashed on and off. They flashed at a different speed as they do before the binding process, but none the less, they were flashing, all servos continued to work.

If I turned my TX off and then turned it on. Then after that I turned the RX on. No Flash is observed. The RX is locked in. and the servos worked.

Perhaps I am being too anal, but to me, whilst I am new to 2.4, I have a bad feeling when the RX is flashing. I feel that maybe it is not locked in as it would be when the Leds are on solid as they are when you complete the binding process.

Am I sweating the small stuff too much????

Thanks for your feedback.
Greg

The Rx is flashing because it thinks it just experienced a power outage (which it did, when you flipped the power switch). The Lights blink to let you know a power outage occurred.

I can see the reasons for why they did it this way, but maybe they need to work on the delay or something...

The specified that it would hold the last channels and report low voltage for a power outage up to 15 seconds. Seemed they managed to do that and more. More like 30 - 40 seconds.

When binding, you should power cycle the Tx when you remove power to the Rx and remove the bind plug. IIRC the instructions so to do so.
