OK, maybe I'm a little jealous.

I'm sure the neighbors love that thing.

Its really not that loud unless you are up close

4 B400 batts 2 sets of 2 in parallel and then series those two ends 1 batt is 3cell 2100mah so I wind up with a 6cell 4200mah.

is that a trex 600 or esmart?

It's the E-Smart silly

Better Answer its the Trex at 1/5 the price, hows them for some apples :)

Good job on the hover, i face winds like that all the time, you get used to the dips and rises because of the gusts.

Mine will be here on Friday!! Whoopiee!!!! Then its the job of putting it together and buying my servo's and radio specifically for her.

What i would love to see (to show the wife what i mean) is a pic of You with the Esmart and say the HBK2 in front of you to show her size comparison to the Belt CP and to a Person at the same time.

Told her its gonna take up the kitchen counter so move her stuff :)

Hahaha dont need my ugly mug on here......and I dont have the helis you posted, I did post a pic of the 600 next to the 400, maybe someone else will volunteer a pic of themselves. Besides I could be really big and fat and make it look small she'll have no reference by anyone unless she knows them.

I'm uploading a vid to youtube right now that shows you the sizes of my helis side to side, I'll post a link when its finished

Thanks Nutcaze!!!

BTW Can you add your 2 part Belt CP plastic head assembly vid on to the instructional video sticky
thats under Belt CP forum.

no prob, I'll prob make a few vids about it sometime soon, some about my build, but these are very easy to put together, built mine (dry fit) in 2 hrs with only 2 1/2 months into this hobby

Get a tripod or better lighting either one will make your video's much clearer and autofocus will work much better as well..

Left feedback on your Belt CP head assembly.

yeah I'm using this super cheap $100 digi cam and my webcam, can't spare any money for better vid accesories yet, my helis are eating all my money right now :YeaBaby:, after I finish my E-Smart and upgrade my fleet to 2.4ghz and a few new motors, gyro, esc's, and a crap load of spare parts when they are in stock. After that a new cam is on the very top of my list, hate the ones I got, but you gotta work with what ya got :D

Well that was short lived! My bird caught on fire in mid flight!

Easier to list what survived:

tail
flybar/paddles
skids
motor ??
esc ??

Here are the events: (although, I dont think its relavant)

Flew with 2 batts (3 cell 2100mah 20c) in series. probably about 3-4 mins max noticed a little power loss so I landed batts were pretty hot so infrared gun showed batts at 134 - motor and esc was 62 and bec was 72.

I broke out the program card and noticed the timing on the motor was set to high so I changed it to med.

Put in 4 batts (3 cell 2100mah 20c) 2 sets of 2 in parallel and then in series. powered all up fine, put on canopy, set on ground, throttle added like 30 secs later. Flew for a max of 2 mins. I'm about 5 feet high poof of white smoke declines and just before it touches the ground a fire starts. I shocked for about 5 secs then run to garage for the extinguiser ( that seemed for ever, felt like 3-5 mins prob shorter )

Aftermath: all connectors are intact except the 2 rear balance plugs are melted but wires are still intact (well not damaged enough to say the fire started there). It appears the fire started internally in one of the rear batts

What causes a LiPo to blaze?

after the fact when those other 2 cooled when I put them on the charger and one started at 3.7 (expected) and the other at 3.2 why would the wear uneven? Is that what caused the fire I batt was being pulled from more then the others? will it catch fire if too low?

Anyways, not sure if and when I will rebuild. If I do, I will look into A123 batts. What A123 would you suggest for the E-Smart? and could you tell me what A123 for the Blade 400 also, thanks. (sorry for the long post)

R.I.P. (beast)

that sucks, srry to hear it, but if its any comfort price wise it'd be close to the same cost if a Belt CP went up or even a King II, so rebuild

you have to be very careful when matching up batteries like that. the only safe way to do it is to fly all of the batteries the same and balance all of them together. it is best to buy all of the at the same time and to keep them on the same # of cycles. my guess is one of the batteries(the one that went up in flames) probably was an older one. what happens is when a battery cannot keep up with the rest it will get overdischarged and most likely puff. i would say that you had a worst case scenario. imo the only way to run batteries in a 50 size electric or larger is to go with a single battery. it may cost more but it is a lot safer.

sorry for your loss man that bites.

That makes sense to me.....when you say balance all of them together, should they be paralleled while charging, is that what you mean?

If I do rebuild, I will stop being cheap and buy 1 6S and do it right. Or what about A123 batteries?

depends on what charger you have. if it can handle 12s then you can charge and balance them in serial. but if it cannot i would say charge them in 3s2p and hook the two sets up to charge as one 6s pack.
in other words you would have 3s2pX2 and then hook the paired packs up in serial and balance them all together as a 6s pack while charging.
i am not sure about a123's as i have not used them yet, but i know a lot of people are using them without any problems. just remember that when flying with a123's that they lose voltage fast at the end of the flight so make sure you can land right away when the get low or you will have to auto in.

mismatched batteries were probably the cause.

I'll be sure not to run in parrallel/series like you did and just buy the appropriate bats..

no they were all the same ABF 3S 20C 2100MAH, I think one did not receive a full charge. I went to bed the night before with on one the charge (wife and son still up) they turned it off before it was done when I saw it was off I 'ASSUMED' it was done never checked so I am only guessing.......but I think its a pretty good guess. Will try to clarify with the mrs tonight but she'll prob say she dont remember :)

bummer dude, was it the ESC that fried or the battery itself exploded.

you have pics of whats left?

LockMD
04-23-2008, 08:22 PM
The battery, and it got the one next to it too, the 2 in the front appear to be okay havent tested them yet.

your running 4 batteries??

So 2 in series and those 2 then joined parralell.

LockMD
04-24-2008, 08:53 AM
yeah 2 sets of 2 in parallel and then those 2 leads in series.

Lock.

you have alternative servo recommendation other than the ones listed in the beginning from that guys setup??

Are these what your using as well? scanner rc servo's? cant really find any from reputable people online, only sites that look like they were made by 3 year olds.

LockMD
