So I've never flown a single-rotor heli. Of any kind. Ever. My only experience is with a Blade CX2, which I can fly through tight spaces and land on a CD case across the room (many furniture collisions learning this). Anyway, my 200's coming together very slowly. Hardly any time to play with it. Two servos (HS45s) are in but not linked up. The faulty third servo was replaced, but it's faulty, too. Spooled up the motor (sans blades) the other night; pretty cool. A couple new parts (CNC tail-servo mounts) arrived from Hong Kong (great delivery from Flying-Hobby; four days from China to my desk). And so on. Bit by bit. And reading the forum a lot.
Anyway, tonight I'm at the hobby store buying needle-size Dremel drill bits and telling the T-Rex staff about the Gaui; they've heard of it but never seen a real one. And I wanted to try their simulator to see if I could flip a heli by doing what I've imagined. I selected some high-performance nitro Hirobo -- close enough for this test -- trimmed it up, then spooled up, which took it straight up, nose hard back, and as the heli came back over, I gradually moved pitch from positive to negative. And guess what? It worked! Now I have an upside down heli in a hover, but soon it starts diving toward the ground. Quick! Nose down or up? Nose DOWN! Back to level. Rotate facing me so right is right and left is left. Okay, yikes, time to get upright. Full negative pitch, heli climbs, then nose full down, and as it rotates skyward in a cloud of nitro smoke gradually move pitch from negative to positive. And guess what? It worked! Zowie! Throttle down and get on the ground. FIRST TIME I EVER TRIED IT! Now I'm stoked.
